i really don't see the problem. you get a boat with a dozen or so sheets of 3/4" plywood and beach right on the waterline. lay out the planks infront of you till you get to the car. encircle the car with plywood (your platform if you will) and get to digging. you can even make a primative A-frame with 2x4s on the plywood over the car and with some simple block and tackle dig and winch it up. 3 to 4 guys can have it done in an afternoon.

OK to get this thing out the easiest way is to get a couple hundred feet of steel cable, a few dozen cable clamps, 6 or 7 "liberated" steel drums with the plugs in them, and enough beer to last till the tide comes in.

Use the cable to hold the drums to the car, but remember to tether the whole rig to the shore. When the tide comes in the thing gets pulled out and you drag it the 1/2 mile till you can get it out. If you do it right you can pull a truck out of the mud, but that is a story for another time.

Now can somebody go get this thing.

yes, alcohol was involed when this plan was first used

Right.
Just found this.

Me and my mates Alan and Dean are local.

Dean is working down the Royal Gwent next saturday and will pop round for a looksee. If we can get access to the river bank then we'll see what we can do.

If it's going to involve boats (Dean has a canoe but I am not sure that is ideal for the Usk "delta") then it may be beyond us ....

If you'd take some pictures the better we can see the problem.
There's enough brains on here to come up with a solution, I'm sure.

Of course the next problem is, if you get it out what are you going to do with it

I am modest enough to have already said that I don't want it ....

Maybe we should chuck it in another river for future generations to enjoy....
