Sunken sidecar of doom.
Hiya, Just where in Wales is the river bank with this sidecar? I live in England, but I deliver goods to South Wales at least once a week, sometimes with an empty van on the return journey.
Regards..........Johnny W.

I found it!
Thanks _Mouse_ for the challenging tips in your first post. You gave us JUST enough to work with! Your "58" address, aarrgghh, was the clincher. Had to be close to there! Here are the GPS coordinates where it was: 51° 35' 12.90" N, -2° 59' 28.40" W. That's 1.2 miles South (down river) of the M4 in Newport, South Wales. Map LINK That thing has been completely under water most of the time. This aerial photo shows the location, though the rig is not visible here due to high tide. ![]() After I dug it up and did a bunch of cleaning, here's what it now looks like: PHOTO Here are some photos of that river when the tide is down: ![]() ![]() ![]()

Cool. If it's there, it will be tough to get to. Looks like quite a drop from the bank to the river bed.

may have found it ...
I believe that I may have located the foundered sidecar:
if you blow up this shot and look almost directly under the ramp that lies to the right of the bridge: ![]() You can see a very suspicious-looking blob: Sorry about the poor quality - this is an 8x digital expansion which i had to shrink to fit on the site - but the artifact inside the red box really looks correct - it's oblong, about the right size, and I can see the wheel in the original. This is an odd way to spend time, although I imagine it's SLIGHTLY more productive than viewing satellite photos of nude beaches. Cheers Jim |
