KTim, Lucky for us even with all those mods, your ADV isn't going to be able to make it across all that saltwater, so we don't have to worry about being roosted after all! That was a close call. (What next for an encore? Maybe a day spent at the factory, where your offered a used Dakar 700CC rally motor for pennies on the dollar.)

Hey KtiM,
Is that a spark arrestor in the Akrapovic silencer (mesh looking thing)? Is that factory delivered? Thanks. Berti

Orange seat cover is from the 950 GO!!!!! bike, cost 12 UK pounds - about $21.
The insert in the Akra didn't come with the pipe but from KTM-Sommer. The open Akra was too loud for me and with ever increasing pressure on off roading (and motorcycling in general) with noise complaints and reduction of riding areas in Europe I decided to be respnsible and fit what Sommer call a "db eater". It is now slightly louder than the KTM EXC pipe I had on before. Sommer claim no reduction in power but a little less torque in the lower to mid range - we'll see. The mesh is fitted to the insert but it is not AFAIK approved for US forest use.

My KTM
I am currently getting the bike prepared for the trip across Russia. Here is a picture before I make the modifications.
I picked it up second hand, it is a 2002 model but was only registered in October last year and covered 1026 miles, I have increased this to 1600 before setting about prepping it for the trip, I like riding it a lot. I have added a chain lubrication system, centre stand, accessory plug, GPS, comfy seat and Low Octane Switch. The octane switch will enable the engine to run on fuel down to 80 octane, it normally requires 95 minimum. I will also have to change the tyres for higher mileage alternatives and run a steel rear sprocket. I have chosen Touratech panniers, Touratech GB are strugling to supply the frames, they sent me the wrong ones three weeks ago. I am waiting visas for the trip, they should be here next week, I plan to leave 17th May or there abouts. This bike could be a keeper if it proves successful. |
