I'm not a modifier of things, so If mine wasn't done, I wouldn't have changed much on the bike, short of comfort things, like risers and seat. I'm sure they are good right out of the box.

It really sound like its running rich. Have you disassembled the carb and inspected everything? I just did mine and came up with a small list, mostly orings. But then I found this thread http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=528038 and talked to Derek on the phone. He walked me through the entire carb and had me look at the slide and slide guide in particular, which it seems wears out a bit quicker when the slide holes have been drilled. I lucked out, he's local to me so I drove up to his shop and he set me up with all the parts to rebuild it. I am planning to do a whole write up (I should look to see if this has been done already!) with pics and contribute it to the index.

Gentleman, I'm posting this here because this is the most recent thread with a similar problem....

Many of you are familiar with the work I have done recently....here it is:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...ht=fun%26games

....bike fires right up, runs very well, throttle response is much better.....but....when i stop for a traffic light, in first gear, clutch lever pulled in the bike idles at 1600rpm and after a few moments it just dies....

1. Clutch switch has been thrown out....wires soldered together and tucked somewhere under triple clamps....

2. Carb has been cleaned, mixture screw set to 2,25 turns out from full in - standard setup.

3. Drilled the holes on the carb slide to 3mm

4. Needle clip on third from top.

5. Carb went not pinched (the hose going to the back from the right side of the carb and ending in the region of airbox), when I blow air from the end of the hose I can hear fuel inside....

6. Bike runs well when in revs, shifts well, all seems well.....

7. Replaced the ignition coil - because of some other issue...spark's good.

8. Spark plug is brownish and dry......exhaust headers seem to be a bit blue (still running rich???)

9. EPC has been removed together with the microswitch on the carb....

If anybody round here has a 2001 Adv I would appreciate some pics of cable routing from the handlebars and some pics of fuel lines routing....

Any other thoughts and ideas are more than welcome because I really want to ride the thing and stop wrenching round......

I like it! But it needs a fuzzy tiger print seat to match! I've always been partial to Giraffe print my self, tiger print is so '80s and over played, IMHO.

No, that green just doesn't work with the Tiger stripe pattern

ktm tiger stripes!

Thanks guys!
Many thanks for the encouragement and for the critics also!

IMHO the stripes are cool and is a way to protest against animal cruelty and so on...

If it was cool in the '80 for sure it will come back again.

In cocnclusion I will keep the stripes but I will search a more discreet way to do it.

Cheers

I vote as you have it (very cool) but ditch the logos. Replicating branding without sponsorship dollars is tacky imo.

It's a great big bright orange motorcycle - there's never going to be anything discreet about a 640 Adv. Do the tiger stripes! I reckon they look great. I may even steal your idea for my Enduro - it's been plain for too long.

Cheers
Clint

Rallye clutch springs

I have been reading through the clutch threads as mine has decided its sick, I have come across the advice to change three of the clutch springs to the rallye type to improve feel and bite.

I cannot find any fiches showing different specs for rallye springs, all part numbers are identical and specify 2.8 x 37mm. Does anybody know where to get these rallye springs or even what spec they are?

I had a search through all the modern variants of the LC4, the only one which runs a different spring is the 660 smc. It uses a 3.0 x 33.5mm, is this what people are using? It should also be noted that the smc uses a different pressure cap.

Thanks for your help.
