Erik
First photo of bike on morning of departure for recent Finke/NT trip.
had to be straightened-up (sub-frame, front rim replaced, handle bars replaced, etc.) after massive get-off in outback NSW18 months ago.
Sat in shed bent until getting it ready for this trip in June - hence being shiny!

This picture of bike after 4000kms, one river swim and once on it's side in some deep ruts.

A bit dusty, scratched and crash bars on RHS bent back into tank.

Love the 640 ADV.

Just finally got to get out on it after some fixing up. Did about 1.5hr or so shake down ride to see if i got it back on right :). Well seems good everthing still there.

But what a machine. I have had a few big singles but nothing compares to these bikes. Just wants to fly. Been a few years since i have hit the dirt but seems easy on this bike. It came with some nice upgrades so that helps i suspect. Cant wait to really get out there.

Thanks.
Josh

Need advice: 640 not starting

Well, glad to see another great thread on ADV. Just sold my 990 this morning and bought a 2006 640 with about 5200 miles this evening. Missed the 990, but I can already tell this 640 is THE bike for me!! I look forward to spending the next several days perusing this thread and learning more about the bike.

Bummer is I got her home, started her, she stalled and now wont start.

I trailered it home in some rain, but that shouldnt matter. It is the stock battery, but the battery is showing 12.2v.....the bike hasnt been used much over the past year, sitting for a while in the original owner's garage.
I started it, lurched forward a couple times in the garage feeling first gear and the clutch, she stalled and now just clicks near the rectifier/battery area when I push the start button. Any thoughts? I sent an email to the original owner to pick his brain as well.

Thanks for any assistance....hope to be on her this weekend ripping up Pikes National Forest.

At least try to kick it over and see if you can start it that way. I'd also start with cleaning all the connections between the battery, frame and starter. Some batteries will show voltage but have no cranking amps left. When my battery gets too weak to turn the motor, I use the compression release to get it spinning then let it out.
