Thanks guys - having a blast! What a great bike 8)

For now I've already dropped it twice - doh! - softly and in sand, so I've ordered tank crash bars from Holan.pl (and the old skool mesh headlight protectors while I was there 8)

Previous owner cut them. I asked him too because they just fit so well!

So far I've put three tanks of gas through the bike since I bought it in January. (Winter here, dammit!)

Anyways, (not that I'm complaining) the bike is running better and better with every tank. 1st tank 38mpg, 2nd tank 43 mpg, 3rd tank 50mpg.

This seems kinda odd to me, granted, a good odd, but still...

Mine sat for too long once (a month?) and on the first ride the temps were way higher than expected. Next ride, a full day, they were as expected. Maybe after long naps the bike is groggy so to speak, with a mechanical/physical explanation of course.

Happy Anniversary Baby...

10 years ago today I drove away from AFC motorcycles down in Palmy with a brand new 2003 KTM 640 LC4 Enduro on the back of my brother's ute. Now, after 127 000km, travel to most parts of NZ & a good chunk of Australia, commuting, dirt riding, road racing, lots of crashes, quite a few mods, an engine rebuild & huge amounts of fun I still have it. It's a damn cool machine.

To celebrate the anniversary I'm taking it to the South Island on Saturday for a week of riding.

Cheers
Clint

10 yrs is a long time to own and ride the same bike in todays world, most guys go through 3 or 4 in that time...

Mine will be hitting 10 yrs in about 4.5 months and I'm set to go for another 10...

10 years ago I was sitting on a bench in Uyuni, Bolivia on the Alta Plana with a fractured pelvis. My BMW threw me over the high side coming into town.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:To...ni_Bolivia.jpg

It was the rainy season and no road traffic had come into town for several days, small rivers blocked the road.

Two mud splattered Germans rode into the main square and parked right in front of me. They had ridden through the rivers on their 640 Adventures.

I guess I never got over that. I bought one when I got home.

The 640, despite it's warts, gives a hell of a ride but the exhaust note when crusing and especially when they accelerate is second to none.

Run them high.

carb question

Posted this on index thread and think that is the wrong place. Need help with carb question BST 40. Bike starts with choke on then dies when it is pushed off. Idles fine with the choke just not without. Also, bogs down and dies with throttle? I'm going to clean the carb anyway, but I'd like to know what would cause this? Is it maybe correlated with the choke cable and housing? And this carb has all the mods with correlating jets.

mind did the same thing when I got it. The slow jet was clogged. Cleaning the carb, needle through jet holes solved the problem.

I just got back from a very long ride on the 950A a few days ago and decided to give the 640A some love. 4th kick I hear a metallic clanging. I looked down towards the noise and saw the kicker flying across the floor, bummer. I put a new one on this evening and rode to the gas station on a flickering fuel light. I couldn't remember how long the light had been on, the mileage showed zero. It died a block away but I only had to push the last 10 feet to the pump still straddling using momentum. The tank holds 7.20 gallons in case you ever wanted to know.
