Is it just me who sees irony in cheap plastic tubes being attached to a very expensive German motorcycle by beautifully crafted fittings

No shit! Amazing machine work there, but at that point, why not just go all the way and machine the entire tube with integrated mounts?

new tool tube at Agri Supply

The new model is a little longer and bigger in diameter, still $4.99, has different mounting holes and looks to be a different shade of black. Ordered 6 last night. Capt D.

Actually....the mounts were made from 2" aluminum round stock with a 1" hole drilled thru the middle and then cut in half...total cost with stainless steel hardware was not that expensive. Inmate Station Chief came up with the idea, I just helped finish them.

I tend to like the plastic tube....due to location....near the rear tire where a lot of damage (pitting/dents) can/will occur, and I like being off road as much as being on road. Also the weight...I know that it is only a pound or less, but every one counts on this bike.

And did I have to mention that the tubes are cheap! (I have spares!)

I will talk to Station Chief about making a couple of extra sets, since he is retired and has more tools and time than I have.

So, you're going to make them for the cost of materials for everybody who wants them?

If I was interested in making more mounts, I would not not do so to make some huge profit off of other guys that ride. Not me.
