So I had bad, but good news. I had removed the oil pump as I thought I needed to clear the gears while removing and installing the crank. Well, I didn't have too. I just needed to remove the gears on the crank which had to be swapped over anyway. I didn't realize you only need to remove two long bolts to get the pump off. I removed all 4 and the pump came away in pieces.
It was actually a good thing as it was somewhat scored. Weird, I've never run low on oil and pretty good about changing the oil.![]() ![]() I've got two numbers for the pump though, 26357-02B and 26357-07. I'm not sure which is right. Gotta get me a parts manual.

This is great stuff, vtwin.
Need to split the cases on my S2 to re-seal the front of the case (weeps oil at higher revs) and these photos, though different, will be useful for me. Thanks! |

Could very well be, although not much debris on the magnet.

No worries, getting a new pump instead and it should come as a complete unit. But thanks.

Well, got ambitious after work and thought I'd work on it for an hour, turned into three!
Put the pistons onto the rods.... ![]() Book says to use new snap rings, I did. Don't want them popping out and scoring the cylinders. ![]() ![]() Now for the rings.

![]() Time for the cylinder. ![]() I'm only doing one at a time, gotta break it down in chunks. Cleaned the surface with this. My adapter doesn't quite fit it. ![]() Since I've got a new honing tool, better clean up the cylinder. ![]() Not perfect, better than it was though. ![]() Surprising I couldn't get it all out. Bike wasn't using any more oil than normal and I never let it run low, weird. Wonder if it was an oiling problem?

Dropping the cylinder down on the piston #1.
![]() I forgot a step that comes into play later on. ![]() Time for work on the head. ![]() I have new stem seals, may as well replace them. Seat looks a little nasty, a little grinding compound to help the valves seat. ![]() ![]() New seals, a light lapping job and back together.

![]() Look! I've got a Blast now! ![]() ![]() Here's where I messed up. I was supposed to install the push rod tube first or you'll have a heck of a time getting this bolt in. I ended up cutting a cheapo allen to fit, no way was I going to take this apart just for that bolt. ![]() ![]() That sure did eat alot of time up and I still have number 2 to do. Glad it's not a Goldwing!

Today I worked on cylinder #2, honed and in place.
![]() Boy I screwed up on this one. They give you a little plastic tube to go over the valve stems grooved surface so the seal can glide on without damage. In my hurry, I put one of the seals on a valve without the sleeve in place. I didn't see any debris of the seal on the lands of the valve stem and I oiled it pretty well, so I actually think I'm ok. So it was time to put on the head and install the cams.![]() You have to line up all the little dots, "V's" and lines. It was time to call it quits for the day. Do yourself a favor and check the entire box for gaskets. I thought it was missing the oil pump/cam cover gasket and the primary gasket, so I went to the local dealer since it I was nearby. Today, I found the gaskets under a supporting cardboard. Sheesh! ![]() Starting to look good though.

Looking really good! Keep posting this stuff, I'm sure one day I'll need it for reference!
