Considering I averaged about 15,000 miles on mine each time, you should be.

Uly Mileage

Couple of notes.

We rode an 06 for 50K and sold it to get an 07. The 07 went for 65K before it was stolen by a sadistic psycho ex-wife.

So the miles can be accumulated with out a lot of drama. Dr Greg went toward 100K with out major issues.

If you would swap the primary gearing in the 12x to that of the X9, we think you will find 1st gear better suited for slow speed work and starts.

Not a large cost, but puts the power to the ground. In 5th gear, the RPMs are increase by 300, not a bad trade off in our mind.

Regards and great riding

Yep, ended up doing that on mine. Snappy off the line instead of feeling like 2nd gear. 70mph=3.8K rpms way better for my driver's license and insurance.

Uly

Indeed a good by product of the gearing swap.

Just curious

What would you be looking at to have Dealership do a crank replacement, split cases, etc.. Im guessing about 15 hours of labor or so, assuming a dealership has all tools on hand ? Safe to assume about 800-1100 dollars in labor?
Just curious I have an 07 and just planning ahead, or thinking I should sell it now, because I have NO possibility of completing this task should mine decide to act up! I have no serious place to put the bike for a few months, or the knowledge to do it!

I think '08 engines will start to pop up, but like Hughlysses, you'll have to deal with a harness and an '08 ecu. I went the crank route as I thought it would be the most economical, I think it was. Good luck.

Uly Engines

We have seen 08s, 09s, and a couple of 10s showning up in the SE part of the US.

Prices are in the $1,100 - $1,500 price range.

Whole wreck bikes can be had for $2,500 - $3,000.

Good luck

Curses! My friend with a 2007 just started hearing the crank bearing failure noises and is pretty convinced his is toast. This happens to be 4 days before we're scheduled to ride to Texas for the ROT Rally. This is... not ideal.

Ugh. Sorry to hear it.

Well, he could be a TRUE adventurer and see how far he can ride it like that before it grenades. The photos would be AWESOME!

Sorry, not much you can do at this point besides rebuild/replace the engine and make jokes about it.

You don't always know by the sound. But if it starts running like crap real fast then you'll know. I'll buy you a pint at Tripplehorn.

Sucks.
