Sheesh.... that was one of the easy crossings (did it 2 weeks ago)... just shows how when things go wrong, they can really go wrong.

Has anyone installed the 2nd fan kit on a later model 990?

I suspect I'm gonna have heating problems in traffic/town this summer.

I found them for sale from the US for $125 plust $35 for a switch that reduces the 'fan-on' temperature from 220F to 200F.

Seems a bit pricey for a fan and a bracket....... http://www.advmachines.com/product_p/rallyfan-1001.htm

Have 2010 990R last summer gets very hot in traffic spoke to KTM Mechanic they advised after market exhaust
NO DIDN"T WORK
They sujested only glycol in the system (Not been done yet)
Rode the other day in traffic not a hot day up it went with the fan screaming
( I wonder if it's the 98 octane I use I'll drop back to 95 for a while )
I'd be interested in the second fan PM if you are ordering

2nd Fan Kit.
There's a complete thread on the OC HOW with heaps of pictures. Doesn't seem too hard. Just copping the $150 or so for a fan and a bracket is holding me back!!!
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=661407

I'm probably going to bite the bullet. I'll leave it a few days, if anyone is interested in a group order with these guys, PM me, I'll see if I can get a quote for cheaper....freight.....bits or something. I dunno about the 220(104C) - 200(92C) degreeF switch though (what is the point of that?).

2nd fan kit

I installed the full fan kit and thermo switch you speak of on my 950A before a central Aus trip earlier in the year. I also replaced my coolant with Liquid intelligence waterless coolant and on the advice of a KTM dealer who made some enquiries on my behalf replaced the stock radiator guard with a RadGuard. Word is the factory slanted plastic thingy does not provide the best air flow, the RadGuard option is a nice open looking mesh guard not like the laser cut jobs you usually see that still look a bit restrictive to me.

Apart from having to remove the tanks fitting the gear was all very straight forward, the Advmachines fan mount is neat, solid and a good fit and the fan they use is a quality unit the same as your original but smaller, it is the standard EXC 4" fan I believe.

I haven't had a summer with this set-up yet but I've done over 10,000km and several thousand of that was poking around the bush at 50km/h average for a 300km day. So far all seems to be working great. The fans kick in markedly earlier, somewhere in the 4th bar on the temp indicator instead of about when the 5th bar lit up. This means the big girl starts cooling earlier and the temp climbs slower, if at all, and this the idea of the dual fan + low switch combo. Again I've not had a summer, but I don't think I've seen the temp hit the 6th bar since I did this upgrade when I used to see 6 and seven bars fairly often in the bush or in traffic.

Another suggestion I didn't look into was to install a highflow thermostat.

I want my bike.... NOW. Just found out that they were still loading cargo on the damn boat in Darwin today..... and I'm stuck here in bike Nirvana waiting for it. The "roads" here in East Timor are fun.... Oh well, two or three more days of lazing around drinking with the girls at the backpackers it is then, I guess....

Here's another question thrown out into the interwebby. Has anyone in Oz done the Butterfly removal mod.

http://ktm950.info/how/Orange%20Gara...y_removal.html

It is said to improve low end throttle response......

A bit like the sidestand relocator bracket : Only done in the US?

Big difference in throttle response, Economy, better idle.

Done it to 4 bikes so far with no ill effects, some with big k's on them.
Always with many thanks from the owners.

Inmate Gateshutter will tell you what he thinks.
I did his 990 at 20k & he now has 40k on it.
He said "it felt like a new bike".

I did mine when it was new.

I use Castrol Anti freeze antiboil concentrate as recomended by Aaron at Kessner KTM.

But he says mix it 50% not 30% with demineralised water.

When you add the new coolant make sure you have your front wheel raised 500mm of the ground (rear still on the ground)
