See the link in my sign... That 950 had the .60 springs a revalve by Mpe. I carried a shit tin of weight including safari tanks. I just cranked up the for preload 2 turns for that trip... Handled well.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO - what a ride!"

Front Rim

Hey all,

As you probobly all know the 9*0 Adv is fitted with a butter soft front rim. I came back from a trip up Cape York and messed with a big dust hole up there at about 120 clicks = square front rim.. Even running hard tyre pressures as I do nothing could save it from that hit !

I need to get a new rim either Excel or SMPro and have it laced up to the original hubs and spokes. Anyone have any recommendations on which rim is better ? As far as size I was thinking to go narrower to a 1.85 but thats about as far as I got. As I wont be doing this myself any recommendations on who best to do the job of relacing the wheel up ? I live near the ACT and I dont know of any good wheel rebuilders in that area, but am prepared to freight it interstate.

Thanks

snarley

Don't discount a Sun rim. I has one on mine in a 1.85 and didn't manage to put a dent in it.

I reckon I am going to give the mitas e09 Dakar a run. Bit cheaper and good wear reputation. I know you had a shit run Mick on the mitas once before...
But I reckon the heavy carcas would go ok on the 950

Ring Teknik or if you really want to call someone else then Terry Hay at shock treatment.
But FP
Nah..
I've used all three.
Teknik are very busy at the moment but have a nice big folder on 640 and 950 setups, saw it just the other day.
Unless someone knows different

Hey Cruz, not doin a Wasp worxs on me S10 mate, doing an OBE01 on her matey. I want to keep her for easy going rides mate.
I tried one return ride on the CRF and the body is not up to that type of riding anymore so the only other bike to fill the gap that I love was the 950 I owned. They tick all the boxes, comfortable, extremely versatile and that twin power is so farking addictive. Wish I still had mine mate but gunna go down the 990 track now and out goes the CRF...

Miss having a Kato in the stable...

17in mitas dakars seem to have good wear. Only got 2700km out of an 18in and largest is 130/80 (dont think the 150 is available yet). Also found it dangerous in the wet. My 2c

So now its become even more frustrating!
Hay wants to use .80's and use DR650 or KLR parts to do it..................forget that!
Teknic cant give me a straight answer and last conversation was they would only use up to .54's (because thats all they got or will get they say) and revalve to suit, that blows too!

Ill see what FP has to say today.
