Now, I've been to the track w/ my car, but never a bike. With a car, you tape the headlights to keep rocks from kicking up and breaking them, but we never taped the taillights....what exactly is the point in that?

So if you crash you don't put glass down on the track.

Yep, alien or insect, just didn't think the big round headlight fit the angular look of the rest of the bike. It's a 2003 GSXR1000 headlight. It's also got mini MX bars on it, sort of ADVish?! Shopping for an XRR, but being a big ex-Supermoto racer, I can slide the SV around in the dirt too.

Twofold.

1. Keep broken plastic off the track surface.
2. Keep riders behind you from using your braking point as a reference. You don't want them watching your six; you want them riding their own lines and looking through the turns.

valve adjustment

I have an '05 with 7700 miles on it. Has anyone adjusted their own valves or is it a dealer only item? I do the valves on my thumpers, but they are easier to get at!

The valves are pretty easy to check on these... prop the tank up (or take it off) to check the rear cyl, and remove the radiator to check the front.

I think the maintenance schedule calls for valve checks at ~15k intervals. On my first SV, I never had to adjust in 50k miles. I just picked up my second SV, and the valve clearances are spot on, with around 40k miles.

I am not suggesting not to check them, but that is quite low miles to suspect any issues.

Here's my old '99, not really the adventure bike, but it's what I got and I love the little thing:
