Peak District rally 25 Jan free entry

The TRF victory over the PDNPA and the Chapel Gate ETRO could be short-lived because the Authority has a meeting arranged for the 25th January at the PDNP Head Office to close it again.

I know its a Friday but its vitally important we make a lasting impression on the attendees to that meeting that they are messing with the wrong People. whilst we have speakers inside the meeting from the various user groups the Authority is just not listening to us and ignoring our rights.

We require as many Trailbikers and 4 x 4 vehicles as possible in the carpark at Alderny House BEFORE 9.00am to prevent visitors and members parking easily. We will conduct a Rally and Protest at the highest possible volume, complete with Placards, Banners, loud hailers and advertising.

This will only work if we are in the Hundreds. ( thousands would be good) we have to demonstrate to the Authorities that what they are doing by banning us from the Green Lanes affects a great number of people from allover the country. i implore every TRF Group, every motorcycle and 4 x 4 club to be represented and bring your vehicles ( road legal of course) and bring your Club Flags/ banners for identification as we will be on the Telly and all the papers.

After the Rally we will go out onto the lanes for a mass ride out, maybe more so be prepared.

The purpose of this is to persuade the Authority that it will be easier to work with us than Ban us. We want them to stop wasting the publics money and sit down and talk with us...........I want to be able to threaten the PDNPA that if they don't listen to us i have the power to cause them so much disruption they will regret the day they started this course of action and i can only do it if i have numbers. I can only do it if YOU care enough to take a day off work to be there on the 25Th of January.

Tell your friends, tell the Ramblers, tell everyone we are coming to Bakewell on the 25th........more the merrier. Please post this on your forums.

Il be there ! I don't do any green laning but this is something worth supporting or before we know it all are motor fun will come to an end !! So come on all show your support

Vehicle users will turn out in force to fight Chapel Gate closure

Trail riders and drivers angry at attempts by the Peak District National Park Authority’s plan to close Chapel Gate – an historic road in the park – are to descend onto the Authority’s offices in force when it debates the issue on 25 January.
A spokesman for the protest organisers: Peak & Derbyshire Vehicle User Group; said: “The PDNPA has already wasted tens of thousands of pounds defending a spurious ‘Experimental Traffic Regulation Order’ banning motorised use of Chapel Gate.
“PDNPA was taken to court by one of our member clubs: the Trail Riders Fellowship; and the judge ruled that the ETRO was illegal, as no ‘experiment’ was in fact taking place.”
The judge’s ruling states: "It is impossible to discern from the Statement of Reasons what that experiment might be. The experiment which I discern from the Statement of Reasons has no rational basis…the experiment described can clearly be seen to be no experiment at all.
“The NPA Press Release announcing the public consultation does not suggest an experiment as described in the officer's report.
“On that basis, the officer's report cannot be admitted to contradict the Statement of Reasons without revealing a further unlawfulness, in the failure to consult adequately. I do not think that consultees would have appreciated the nature of the experiment from the Statement of Reasons, which is where they should be entitled to look.
“For those reasons, I quash the Order. The NPA will have had fifteen months in which to gather the data it sought. The NPA cannot move to make the Order permanent without going through the full TRO procedure."
Incredibly, the PDNPA appears to have not understood the ruling, claiming in a press release dated November 30, that the judge had rejected the TRF arguments that the Order was not a genuine experiment and was irrational and unlawful, and that the PDNPA had lost on a technicality.
And, even more incredibly, the PDNPA now appears determined to introduce a blanket ban on all motor vehicles using the road, for reasons that are neither clear nor rational, citing damage done by walkers on surrounding ‘right to roam’ land as justification for closing the road itself to motors!
The Peak & Derbyshire Vehicle Users Group spokesman said: “There are plenty of examples of walkers damaging right to roam land in the park without the presence of a nearby vehicular right of way, with Kinder Scout being a good example. This damage will no doubt continue with or without the passage of the occasional vehicle on the road until more is done to educate walkers as to their responsibilities.
“So it is really hard to discern any motive for this action, other than spite. It would appear that PDNPA is pursuing a vendetta against lawful motorists, who pay road tax, fuel duty and insurance premium tax to be able to use the Park’s road network. We would like to know if these unelected but powerful individuals are acting for their own reasons, or whether their strings are being pulled by others.
“We are going to use the PDNPA’s Audit, Resources and Performance Committee where they plan to put forward proposals for a total ban on motors, to raise important questions about the motivation for these measures and their cost to the public.
“Our Group is prepared to work with the PDNPA and other stakeholders to produce a constructive policy for the future of the Park’s historic road network. We are prepared to continue with our efforts to educate all classes of user and give up our own time to maintain the network.
“If, however, the PDNPA is not prepared to engage with us in a constructive manner we will throw our full weight into opposing them.
“The recent court case means that they are already one-nil (and at least £20,000) down, and they are going to have to pay the TRF’s costs.
“We are offering them a last opportunity for an equitable solution. Our presence in strength at the January 25 meeting should serve as a warning to them as to the reserves that we can draw upon should they decide to continue with their policy of confrontation.”

Whilst I wish you luck with your protest I think it is important not to appear like a rabble, there is a fine line between a vocal protest and harrasment and crossing that line could be counterproductive.

I think the ramblers are more like to support the ban, they want all tracks to themselves so don't expect much help there.

Those who have forced the PDNPA into coming up with these bans are the ones who have behaved like a rabble up to now...and they've got what they wanted.

Instead of apologising for its illegal actions, PDNPA is determined to start all over again. The PDNPA needs to realise that this is going to make us mild-mannered motorbiking types cross.

Tell the Ramblers...not because we expect any support from them...but quite the reverse...we can then expose them as an ally of the various anti-access groups operating in the Park.

have read on the trf web page that the venue has changed to the agricultural showground in bakewell, which is on the a6 going south towards matlock.

They've now taken Chapel Gate off the agenda and moved the meeting back to HQ.

A small victory for us.

Meanwhile the demo goes ahead...This went out to the local, national and specialist media today

Peak District drivers confirm that demonstration is on!

Vehicle users will be protesting against a plan to ban then from the Peak District National Park at the Park Authority’s headquarters in Bakewell on the morning of January 25. These actions are being organised by the Peaks & Derbyshire Vehicle Users Group (PDVUG): an umbrella organisation of the national and local motor and motorcycle clubs which use the lanes of the Peak District.
Demonstrators will gather from 8 am in the PDNPA's car park at Aldern House, and there will be something there worth photographing!
Originally the demonstration was planned to coincide with a meeting of the PDNPA committee that was to discuss imposing a blanked ban on Chapel Gate in retaliation for the TRF getting the so-called 'experimental' TRF on the historic road exposed as illegal in the High Court.
When the PDNPA got wind of the demonstration, their initial response was to relocate it to a different venue so the demonstrators would move away from their office.
They then postponed discussion of the TRO for two months, for reasons that they will be happy to explain. The meeting on January 25 is going ahead, but Chapel Gate does not appear on the agenda.
PDVUG will still hold a demonstration outside the NPA offices on January 25, to make it plain to attendees at the committee meeting that it remains resolutely opposed to the further destruction of public rights to use the park. The committee members then have two months to ponder on the implications of their action before making a decision.
The vehicle users will be back, in even greater numbers, when the Chapel Gate matter is discussed at the PDNPA meeting in March. The longer days and warmer weather then will make it far easier for people to travel from a distance, so there will be more demonstrators than could have been expected in January.

I have quotes from the judgment in the High Court about the illegality and nonsense of the Experimental TRO which I can supply to you if you wish. It was not, as wrongly claimed by PDNPA and GLEAM, overturned because the wording was wrong: it was overturned because the 'experiment' described was no experiment at all.

You could ask the PDNPA how much all this has cost them so far. They have £100,000 of public funding set aside to ban us from the Peaks. I don't know what their internal and external costs are for Chapel Gate so far, but the TRF is in the process of recovering around £10,000 of this to cover our costs so far from them. A modest estimate then is that they have spent 20 per cent of their 'war chest' and are now further back from their objectives than they were at the start. No doubt they will carry on until the £100,000 is spent, then find more public money from somewhere (legitimate conservation or tourism projects perhaps) to spend on reducing public access to the park.

It should be remembered that the PDNPA's stated prime purpose of banning vehicles from Chapel Gate is to prevent 'displaced' walkers damaging the surrounding countryside.
As you will see from this link in a walkers magazine
walkers need no 'help' from vehicles when it comes to damaging land without the presence of a nearby vehicular right of way. But there appears to be an unlimited supply of resources to cover up the damage that they do, even if it means dumping loads of flown-in stone onto an SSSI.
In contrast, some years ago the historic stone surface was removed from Chapel Gate and replaced with a thin layer of tarmac. This soon washed away, and was the start of the problems on the route which continue to this day: caused not by use but by inadequate and inappropriate interventions by government bodies.

Here we go again...

The Peak and Derbyshire Vehicle User Group together with GLASS, TRF and other clubs, are holding another monthly event in the Peak Park to protest against the unfair restrictions on recreational vehicle use of green lanes, currently being proposed by the Peak Park Authority.

Building on the success of our 'Back to Tarmac’ days on 21st October and 25th November, we now invite you to our next protest drive on Sunday 24 February 2013.

Like last time we will be focusing on the main roads and the larger towns in the key areas, plus we will have a 'photo opportunity' stop about half way along the route, so pictures can be taken for press and web site use.

As before, we shall be meeting at 10.00am in the car park at the rear of the Monsal Head Hotel at grid ref: SK 185 715, which is about 1.4 miles north of Ashford in the Water.

The route is from Monsal Head car park - Ashford in the Water - A6 - Buxton - Dove Holes - Sparrowpit - unclassified road to Winnats Pass - A6187 - Castleton - Hathersage - right on the B6001 - Grindleford - Calver cross roads - A623 - Baslow - through Chatsworth Park on the B6012 - Rowsley - A6 - Bakewell turn right through Ashford again on the B6465 to finish at the Yonderman Café at Wardlow Mires on the junction with the A623. There will be a break and photo opportunity, again, at the lower end of Winnats Pass.

We shall be driving slowly on normal tarmac roads at green laning speeds, in groups, in a legal and non-confrontational manner. A good deal of publicity will be generated in the process, and the participants will have a scenic drive and hopefully a good day out in the peak district.

PLEASE NOTE: We have agreed with the police that we will NOT be holding up any traffic. In fact, encouraging drivers to pass us will provide better visibility of our cause.

An A4 placard is available for use inside vehicle rear and side windows. Please print one or three off before you set out, for the rear and both side windows, (if you have them). In a plastic sleeve, this will also work on the cover of a rear door mounted spare wheel, or the back of a motorcyclist’s jacket (with duct tape!):

Can I suggest starting a new thread with dates for these rides, as the title is 25th January I'd assumed it was just more comment on that ride, not a new date - I was nearby the peaks so would have come had I known.
