Through the wild Balkanistan -From Germany to Romania -11 countries, 4 weeks 8000 km

4 weeks off...and what now?

First we where thinkinh about to ride 4 weeks to Romania....but after a few thinkings we decided to ride nearly the whole Balkan. Nobody knows if the Balkan will get lost....or he swims away...nobody knows

In the last winter we started to plan...to read....to change plans...to read more...to change plans again...and 1 day before we started we changed the plan again

That should be the route :

Germany - Austria - Slowenia - Croatia - Bosnia Herzegowina - Monte Negro - Albania - Mazedonia - Bulgaria - Romania - and back through Hungary and Austria again.

We made plans to camo and so we had to buy some brandnew camping stuff....later more.

Also i bought all necessary maps for the trip...i need to know where exactly iam on this world....made a update for my TomTom for a lots of money....later more to that

Lets go.....

We started in Heidelberg, our base, to Austria crossing the alps ( Großglockner mountain) to a city at the Wörthersee lake, Pörtschach.

I have some relatives there and we reached our low budget aim for that day

The Großglockner tour

Awesome weather with 35 degrees....what do we need more
The mountains in reaching area of the hands....

we had to pay19€ in Cash to cross the barrier...its a street you have to pay for no worry....i have holidays

we made a lots of breakes to have a look and to take some pics....

the Austrians have really good signs along the street, so you know every time in which curve you fly! Applause to the Austrians at this point

No traffic....

up to the top....

and it was worth to ride up to the top....

Yeah....

lets have a look downwards...

after that we headed to the Großglockner himself....

Here he is....Großglockner mountain himself....

he melt

we had luck to come here before everything reduce into a fluid state

me myself and i....and the Großglockner....this pic comes into my familyalbum

and now...downwards....

Direction Pörtschach i filled up the Q with fresh Austrian springwater

and after 900km we arrived our goal for that day (its enough for one day )

A shower...some other clothes...food....some cold beer....good night!

At the next morning we made some pics and enjoyed the view from above

Wörthersee lake

thats it....lets go....

We left Austria over the Loiblpass direction Slowenia...headed through Slowenia....nothing special there, Thats why i have not so much pics from that!

Loiblpass: very nice pass but full of wood at the left and the right side of the road no view....

We took backroads through Slowenia...nice country but nothing special. After a few hours we reached another pass...really cool...in the midlle of a wood...in the middle of nowhere.....damn hot with 35 degrees....we where sweat like hell...and then i saw where i will be in a few minutes

rrrright...i will jump into the river....parked the motorcycle....put the clothes off....and...puuuh its cold...brrr....but good!

absolutely clear water with a lot of fishes which nosh on my skin....no joke...they did really....forget the white shark

after swimming we headed forward...my TomTom said there should be a border we have to cross.....and there was a border but the borderpatrol said we are not allowed to cross...its only for local people! No croatoa for now

But the border patrol was really friendly and explained us the way to the official border we could cross!

here you can see the wrong bordercross

and here is the right one...little difference...huu

we passed little nice villages....

had to ride over 10km unpaved roads with potholes from each category....

very beautyfull landscape

Okidoki...somewhere along the way and after a hard ride over the the unpaved road we crossed the border to croatia....

and thats life is going...after a lot of backroads in the outback of Croatia we started to feel hungry. We found a restaurant...ok it was the only one since my experience with the fishes and for the rest of the day till Plitvice....our final point for today.....so we stopped and had a little bit to eat....its for us both

Found a nice fotomodel....

After diner i really liked it to lay down somewhere and have a sleep for 2 hours...baaah....but doing nothing is no solution

Through woods and over Mountains we reached Plitvice...there we found a place for camp....so we conquered the campplace

it was late at evening....40 degrees...Plitvice has to wait till tomorrow!

The good thing is we had a lot of plumtrees around our tent...that means a lot of vitamines for the rest of the day

At the next morning we had Plitvice National Park on our "Must see list"

Dont believe the pics....in the morningtime it was nearly empty there....at afternoon you have seen only people and the national park between the people.

You have to walk on wooded bridges trough the park...that means we had some km to walk that day...and it was horrible hot

I present.....Plitvice National Park

absolutly beautyfull here!

we climbed millions of stairs up and down....

but it was worth

Plitvice rules

after this hardcore walking day we where really done....45degrees in between....some km of walking through the park...and now back to the tent and pack all on the bike

back at the tent we swaet all out of us what we could....1 hour later we had all on the bike.....something we have to change

Back on the bike...lets go...puuuh!!!

The motto of the day was to see how far we will come today...we started at afternoon from plitvice.

45degrees...horrible!

After awesome backroads....passes....mountains.....we come closer to the sea and after a short ride trough a tunnel, abruptly this view

aha...thats it...the sea and the legendary coaststreet nr 8 (more to this point later)

a break to enjoy the view

empty streets...the whole day....not bad

the coaststreet...a dream

coming out of a curve i could see a sign with "BBQ" on it....down at the sea....no question...thats my place and it was late at the day

the eagle has landed for today

They had rooms too....so we decided to stay here...bbq and cold beer....life is good

We had fresh grilled fish....of course

after the sun has gone for a bath into the sea....good night for today!

we did not come far today...100km but its ok.

I was not sleeping in the bed this night...i was sleeping at the balcony...it was too hot for me in this room

In the morning a little damn fisherboat waked me up from my sweet dreams....first i need to have a look to see where i am

he waked me up

not a bad view at the morning

Breakfast...we meet an italian guy with his wife on a 1150GS....we talked in english, german...and with signs...we understood each other very well.....

after they left i had to talk eye to eye with my sozia

I: "do you want to use the tent once again in this horrible heat?"
sozia: "not really...the roomprices are very low!"
I : "at the next post station we sent the tent and all back home we dont need anymore!"
sozia: "damn good idea!"

and that is exactly what we have done later this day

Today we want to reach Dubrovnik!

Navigation and googlemaps say the blue line to Dubrovnik....but in the real world it is the red one.

a break in the shadow before....

riding along the sea we came to Sibenik....break.

i was sitting in the harbor with my cold coke while wifey makes some pics in the city

after chilling in the harbor ...lets go!
and at this point the awesome and phantastic lonesome coaststreet changed into a highway...the landscape changed into a coast full of houses...no views...you could see sometimes the sea between the houses....but nice is something else!

This should be stay till Bosnia Herzegowina...the rest for that day

thats why i have no pics from that section of street...from what? cars?....houses?...trucks?....o hell nooo!!!

Sibenik direction Bosnia

the pass to Bosnia

thank god...here it is nice again

since a long time my gastank told me that he need to fill up...but no gasstation here!...ok...i can nothing do now...not goodafter a lot of km later we reached at the end of that pass a little village....and...woohooo...a gas station

full with gas..lets go! and then we came to a border...hmm...i didnt know that we have to come to a border now
i thought i drived wrong somewhere....so i asked the borderpatrol where iam right now!?.....he told me that i cross the border to Bosnia Herzegowine here!.....he showed me at the map that iam on the right way to Dubrovnik!

Okidoki...why not Bosnia?...i never been there...so lets see what they have

it was dark when we conquered Bosnia...so we have omla a few not soooo good pics....

after one hour or somethinh like that....the next border...back to croatia

To dark for pics...sorry!!

in Dubrovnik we tried to find a hotel...we found quickly one...and while my lady went in to ask for the price...a old man come to me with a sign in the hand which means "rooms" and he talked to me....in croatian

so i asked him:
- parking? YES
- aircondition? YES
- quiet? YES

Ok lets go and to see the room!

At his house we found a really good room and we dealed a good price for the room! we decided to stay for 2 days.

And now...hunger please....down to Dubrovniks spacious shopping mile full with bars and restaurants

Definetly our place for that evening

Yummy stuff

after that...good night

Awesome ride report! I haven't been to Dubrovnik since 1985 so it's really great to see it thriving again. It was one of my favorite places in the world. Keep the pictures and report coming!

At the morning before we started i tried to wake up my TomTom...but he said "no card found" !

What a luck that i made an expensive update before we left germany for my awesome TomTom

That was ist with the TomTom for the rest of our journey
