ReaperX, dripping gas when the bike on the side stand: Malfunction on needle valve, blocked oder worn, or o-seal defect. Did you ultrasonic clean the carbs? Sounds that one of the tiny pilot holes or so is blocked.
I disassemble the carbs, clean them with degraser, lay 'em about one day or two in denaturaded alcohol. After that I'll blow them dry with compressed air and check each hole gently with a broach. I use new seals, and change the worn parts... On some carbs I had the engine stalling when decelerationing, caused by heavy worn nozzle needle... Bluesman, I do remember, for sure I left the compression at stock (for the moment... hrrhrr), maybe the next pistons get slightly higher compression ratio. I want to get the engine running... for the next step ![]() Cheers, Lars Resi screwed with this post 02-23-2012 at 02:04 PM |

Thank you!
I am looking for raising compression because I had chance to run my DR on 92 (I found place, where owners of collectable old cars have special place to fill up) and I was amazed how better it ran. What's worse...my VTR1000F runs on 92 better and use less petrol than 95. Do not know why. I guessed it is low compression rate of both motors. |

Mait, I didn't found them UK-guys..
I met some guys on the 2010 Intermot in Cologne,Germany. We built a couple of pistons at my spec, I reamed one barrel last week (I mentioned allready, I think), and get the whole bunch assembled... Cheers, Lars |

But I think wemoto makes good prices for this stuff. When you buy these tiny o-seals at Suzuki, you'll pay a lot of bucks... If you find out that the needles and/or nozzles are worn, drop me a PN ;) Cheers, Lars |

I'm thinking its water in the Carb after running low fuel? Haven't been bothered as after my shoulder injury, have found KTM hard on me were as DR gives me an easier time of things (especially off road) So no biggy that KTM is down for now ![]() and One up for the DR

800rider,
What you describes looks like problem one of 990 owners I know had. It was something to do with filter and pressure regulator. Cleaning mainly. He developed solution to make it easier by (if memory serves me right) moving pressure regulator to outside of tank or something like it. Here is photos disregarding Russian text http://kickstarter.org/forum/index.p...7392#msg107392 http://kickstarter.org/forum/index.p...7393#msg107393 http://kickstarter.org/forum/index.p...7395#msg107395 http://kickstarter.org/forum/index.p...7396#msg107396 And filter from Chrysler Voyager 3 liter (mitsubishi motor) http://kickstarter.org/forum/index.p...99681#msg99681 He says that if engine get's really hot and petrol is let say not perfect the flow rate of original filters combo kinda s...s and bike start to behave as you described. So he made this mod. |

Running low on fuel allows a lot of fuel sloshing and moving arround and stirs up all the crud, and allso refueling with a low tank stirs it all up again, its amazing some times when you clean the tanks out and wonder where did all this crap come from .
I thought I bought clean fuel .

A lot of work but it runs great!!!!!!!!!

Nicely done
Kuba astr
Welcome...what a great first post and nicely done BIG. If there were more than a handful in the US, I'd want one just like that to compliment the one I have. Please give us list of what you've done. The side panels/rear fender/silencer all fit together very well. |
