Can a CDI unit be checked or do you just try another one. And, is there a unit from another bike that would suit 'cause trying to get another one is like trying to buy hens teeth.
Cheers,
ausibatla.
I had to get a new CDI and a new stator winding...............

That was a biiiggggg dent in the bank balance.

The wiring was also a different colour and two of the wires in the chocbloc had been transposed.

Mr Hessler was very patient with me............

Wires are a dark art to me.

Wires run on magic smoke. When the magic smoke leaks out through the exhaust, the wires stop working.

This is how I knew my wiring loom had melted on my Super Tenere

One like that went for 1795 recently, admittedly with about 500 of spares.

Family fun day with Church friends yesterday, what do you think of Our International All Black carting team.

The rear mini Bikes are my kid ones ,they were playing Computer games in the intermission and my camera battery ran out before I could get ride pictures

Pics of todays ride

What are those other heathen bikes doing in the shot, actually it was funny a motorcycle friend of a friend arrived and was quite fascinated by DR ( he barely notice other bikes ) and ask if it really was a 800 single, I sent him off for a ride on it and he came back raving about how well it went I don't think my other rider friends were to happy about that,Hay what can you do, thought you guys might enjoy that story

Hey there 800. Nice photos. Looks like a fun day alright.

I did the same to a mate of mine - he rides a XT600E, typical snob. He can still not wipe the smile off his mug after a spin on my 750.

I love these bikes!

Yep we know how to put on a real shin dig ( good time )

The Guy who rode my Bike ask me were he could get one from and I had to tell him the bad news Mine was the only 800 Ive seen for sale in NZ and I'm guessing there might be 4 in the country in total,( thats about 1 per Million people ) 750s were sold in NZ new and I'm going to guess that there might be 10 of those left, My DR400 friend piped up and said man I wished they Still sold them new as Id buy one, its a sad tale for those without
Real sad if you Live in Malta with a total of 1 DRBIG according to DRMaiden ( which is a ratio of one per 400,000 people, in case you were wondering )

There used to be three DR's here, but I heard the other 2 were written off.

Hence the reason you need to pick me up on the way up to track day !

They are not plentiful around these parts either. I know of 2 800's (one on here - Wild Hearted Son and the other at work). Then there's the guy from Langebaan (130km away from here - 750). There's also a girl with a 750 here in town (not met - she wanted to buy my starter motor. How the hell was I supposed to start my ride???) Recently 2 of them ended up on Gumtree - one 750 and the other a 800.

That's it!

What were the selling figures of the DR BIGs world wide? In what country were the most sold? I wonder...

Gosh, I wonder what the US ratio is? AFAIK there's only Gaspipe and me. I know there's at least one in LA (the one I missed buying a few years ago).

It's like that here with Africa Twins, Super Tens, Transalps (more of these) and many other great machines.

I'm not trying to throw business at Stefan Hessler but I think it would be smart to try to buy our spares and modding parts from him if we can. The above illustrates just how rare it is to have someone around who has done development work on this bike and is brave enough (in todays world) to put these items in the marketplace.

Having seen the spares market for Africa Twins start to dry up in recent years, being mostly disinterested (for one reason or another) in the new bikes and having found the DR fit my riding style so well, I plan to make regular purchases and collect enough spares to keep the DR going for the next 10 years or so.

Judging by the aftermarket I'd say Germany. Big presence in Holland and Japan maybe.
