Who cares what it looks like, it's too functional to leave at home. I've got E41's as well, but they make the bike almost 4 feet wide. I only use the side cases on long trips, but the top case never comes off.

ASUS Eee PC... That is a smoking deal. These things are great for Adventure Riders. I noticed that Alex of THE RUSSIANS ARE COMEING fame has one.

IT IS ONE OF THE BEST PURCHASES I HAVE EVER MADE.

Hopelessly mainstream, but infinitely functional. Tools, tire and first aid kit, jacket liner stay in it, whatever I need for work goes in during the weekdays, whatever I need for fun on the weekends. The only time it comes off is if I'm staying somewhere on a trip, then it is luggage complete with handle.

Perhaps more importantly, the g/f loves having the back rest, and when she's happy...

Ugly top box

Here's a picture of the temporary top box. I also use a yellow dry bag to hold lots of stuff, including my rain suit and fleece vest.

Here' mine, a milkcrate version.
It's funtional (that's two 30 packs in there), cheap (free), and easy to "clip" on and off (hd zip ties).
