I'll see your big and ugly and raise you ungainly.
This is the box I made for my Wife and I's cross country trip last summer. It's slightly narrower than the ammo can side boxes, almost waterproof, very solid, and carried everything we needed (and some things we could have done without). When it isn't full of camping gear it can easily hold 2 full face helmets, and it doesn't effect the bikes handling once you get over about 20mph.

Meh, riding two up the handling gets so screwy that the effects of the top box are negligible. With just me on there I did a two hour shake down run that was wholly unremarkable. One handed cruising at 80mph and not wobbling all over the road is close enough to "doesn't effect handling" for my needs.

I hate the look of them, even when they were designed with the bike in mind right from the factory, but I cannot deny the usability. Lock up my gear at a stop, carry boxes to the post office, etc.

When you put something ugly on an ugly bike it fits.
Just sayin'

Hey Rob. Did you ever get your Wing? I acquired an older one a few months back. Then promptly stripped it of all its cloths.
![]() ![]() ![]() IMO the best MC accessory EVER is ROK Straps.

Hey DAKEZ,
In all of this...what's your FAVORITE top box setup? As in, one that you really think looks A-OK!

I would have to say a Pelican top case that is not mounted too far back is the least offensive in the aesthetics department.
I find the tall rounded bulbous ones to be more unsightly and downright hideous when they are mounted back too far. The convenience is never in question... But I truly do not see the NEED. I have lived without them so I know it is doable. I have Rock Staps and Dry Bags that work well to hold stuff. The Dry Bags only get used on trips. About once a month I wear my back pack to run errands where I need quick convenient carrying capacity. While I do believe that a top box increases the risk of back injury in the event of being rear ended (based on things I have read right here on ADVrider) mostly it is just fun to have good natured ribbing and banter about them. No matter how functional they are you must admit they look a bit silly. Some of the creative ones are straight up cool in all their ingenuity and ugliness. RIDE RIDE RIDE!!!!
