Is it time to start a laminar lip disparagement thread? I loved mine but far uglier than the average top box, IMHO.

I used a rack on my SV650S for carting my laptop back and forth to work after growing to dislike the weight of a messenger bag especially on warm days. Decided to go for the top box on my SMT and I was actually surprised by how the functionality it added to the bike erased any concerns of aesthetics. I just stopped caring about it. I love it.

I think its funny to care about how your bike looks to other people or when it's parked. What should matter is how it feels when you ride it.

I do not care how my bike looks to other people. I care how it looks when I walk up to it.

as far as the looks of top cases go, I rely on my dashing good looks to counter that.
Besides that, I am cageless so I need as much locked space as I can get and its nice to fill it with groceries and then take the whole thing into the house :)

Fair enough. The SMT is a sexpot. My SMT is a sexpot with convenient storage. Double win!

Agreed. Top cases are ugly. Fugly even. Not the the Tiger 800XC is a particularly sexy bike. But it's way easier to squeeze around fences into places I'm not supposed to be with a top case instead of the panniers (one of which I smashed doing just that).

I know right? I am more of a clean air kind of rider. That is the way it came but I do have a couple of options.

I have just been riding it so much and selling bikes to others that I have not had time to experiment with the other Shield that came with the bike.

I am 6'5" and so far the Laminar Lip, the Bar Risers and the peg lowering are all welcome improvements.

I need to do some measuring so I can fabricate a top box mount for my little S40. Well, that and maybe some mounts for some hard side cases, too. If I'm going to go dork, I might as well pull all of the stops.

This is what you SHOULD do to your S40

If you're not going anywhere you might not need one.

If you are they are nice to have -
