It looked to me like Bertuzzi sucker-punched his victim, then slammed the guy's face into the ice, and then continued to pummel him even though the guy was unconcious and bleeding. What a pussy.

Bertuzzi should have to sit out the rest of the season, get a colossal fine, and then be forced to pay the victim's medical expenses out of his own pocket.

Maybe that would give the goons something to think about.

I like hockey. Fighting detracts from the game itself. It I wanted to watch boxing, or wrestling, I'm sure I could find that on my cable box somewhere.

This is sounding like the "Godfather" on ice! Not to be confused with the Ice Capades!

Well,
Bertz is out for the rest of the season and the playoffs... minimum of 17 games and will cost him about half a mill...

It will be reviewed again by the Comm. before he's allowed to practice for next season.

Good news. I can imagine he'll be wearing a Haillo (sp?)or at least a brace for a couple months.

Some of his vertebra are broken in the "C" part of his neck, but I'm not sure what type of immobilization that will require.

Hockey made this problem....
Last night on the local news (MPLS MN) the Bertuzzi incident was in the news section... In sports the only highlight from the hockey game VS Vancover (Wild and Canucks don;t like each other much sense last years playoffs when Bertuzzi knocked out a winger with a check) was a Wild player holding a Canuck over the boards beating the living shit out of him.... Folks thats hockey. This is what the owners want because blood sport sells tickets. When you want fights and blood your going to get the Steve Moore type injuries. And lets not forget Moore is a goon. Thats his roll on his team. There is a reason that Bertuzzi was gunning for him.

Hell watching ESPN they showed a player take a swing at another player from behind with a stick. Doing exactly what Bertuzzi did but with a stick. No penelty was called.

I'm not saying its right. All I'm saying is somone made this bed and now there shocked...

At the start of every season the NHL claims it will clamp down on hooking and holding, but once it's mid-way through any season, we're back to the usual grind. This can be very frustrating for skilled players because they're being hen-pecked by players that wouldn't be able to make it to the NHL 20 years ago.
Spaceman, you hit it right on the head. Excellent explanation of what's wrong with the game - and NHL refereeing - today.

Moore is not a goon and that is not his role on the team. Betuzzi got what he deserved. Moore is a basic rookie trying to make the team, checked Naslund (and I was at the game) with a hit that the league later reviewed and deemed legal. Between Crawford, the GM, May and Ruutu, the whole thing got totally out of control and they should suffer the consequences. What has been lost here is the Avs scored five (yes 5!!!) goals on these posers in the first period. Vancouver basically sank to a gutter position and decided to hurt anybody they could.

Kinda makes Aaron Yates look like a saint.
No kidding. While his current suspension is the remainder of the season,
I hope he gets the boot. And his sorry assed apology, that's a total crock.
You don't do that to someone and then (paraphrasing) say "I'm not a mean
guy".

Dood needs some anger management classes.
