On the other side of the bridge from you... welcome to ADV.

Thanks

For the welcome to ADV Rider, do people from the forum get together with any regularity, for rides in the summer, or just to BS in the winter?

Greetings from Burlington

Just retired and getting into DS riding. I recently purchased a 2008 KLR 650 and after I rebuild the top end this winter to stop oil consumption I will be ready to go. I rode the Land Between the Lakes DS this year and looking forward to doing it again. Also rode the Black Hills and will definately go back next year.

Looking to hook up with other DS riders in the area. All my local riding buddys are into the enduro thing. My goal is to see alot of country from the seat of a motorcycle. If interested PM me and possibly get together before next riding season.

Not sure of regularity... some of the guys over near Iowa City meet up... always seems to be times when I can't make it (or the last time, sick as a dog).

Klr 650

David - Are you having a problem with oil usage on your 09 KLR? I have an early build 08 and usage is horrible. I have done the following and somewhat slowed consumption. Changed to a 16 tooth counter when on the highway (lower rpms), installed a "Termo-Bob" which lets the engine operate in the proper temp range, installed an external K&N filter on the crankcase breather hose. It still uses way too much oil to suit me. The oil is black 300 miles out of a change.
I am going to pull the head and cylinder off this winter and mic the bore and skirt clearance and go from there. The bike is exactly what I want and I don't expect any issues in solving the oil consumption. It seems to be a common issue with the 08 and newer bikes. Just trying to get more info from the guys who have them. I realize this subject is covered in another forum so I won't belabor the issue here.

Thanks in advance

Don

ps - where in Iowa are you located?

Don,

I have not had any issues with oil consumption. Mine is '09 & I think the '08 models had some factory issue that needed to be fixed.

I am in Dubuque.

David

I`m in Des Moines also. I not an off-roader by any means but I sure love my gravel road expeditions. My KLR is down for the winter but sure would like to hook up with some folks for some riding when it gets warm again. I got a trailer also, so incase someone had an emergency, give me a shout.
(because of my car, can only haul a light weight bike- no harleys).

Thumb Gas!?!

Hey 2 wheeler, what studs are you using? The ones from Aerostich? Pictures would help of your tires.

I am guessing that your on 2 wheels? No need for a hack right?

Thanks!
