I finally got around to going out and test driving a Super Tenere this afternoon. I was very impressed with it, fantastic handling/braking/ power. I really enjoyed that bike! I also test drove a used DL1000 vstrom which I am strongly picking one up next year for a second bike. I loved the Tenere but I am not in a position right now to purchase a $15k bike :( but the $5k prices for the DL1000 I can justify, I actually really enjoyed the vstrom and think it would be a great addition to my BMW next year.

Newbie to Iowa

Hey All. I just moved to Iowa a month or so ago.
From Portland OR and live to ride. Looking to hook up with some dudes to ride.
My Adventure bike is still in Oregon at the moment. I'm going to make a ride out of bringing it here this summer. I have my KTM 450 (with a plate) here as well as a couple of my streetbikes. If anyone is interested in a off road rip let me know. I would love to see some of the cool stuff around Des Moines. This weekend? Next weekend?

Been riding for many years and very comfortable on any terrain Iowa can offer.
Looking forward to meeting some fellow Motoheads.

You'll want to move back. Soon.

Is your 450 the street-legal EXC version or an older one that you've converted? If it's a converted one you won't be able to transfer your plate.

you can get anything on the street in iowa. licensed some jet powered bikes, a golf cart with a 1000cc sportbike motor as well as many other things.

It had a plate from the factory. So I should be set.

Bikes don't come titled from the factory. Registration is issued through the state. If your bike is a 2007 KTM EXC or newer, you are ok. If it's older, you won't be able to transfer it in Iowa. I would keep it registered in Oregon and just ride it here, which is legal.

This guy can't be all bad Taco, he owns a Beta Rev too, but the Vstrom is a strike against him.

Then you better keep buying the ladies in the courthouse of the county you live in lavish gifts. I moved to IA from IL two years ago and was denied a plate on an older KTM EXC (already carried a valid IL plate) in Johnson County when I established residence. So, I went out and bought a KLX, only to be denied again. After a call to Des Moines, we got that taken care of.

A friend of a friend who lives near Carroll had a State Trooper knock on his door a couple of years ago and seized the plate off his XR650. Same with his buddy in Ames on his KTM.

And I have a guy here in my town that just moved here from either KY or TN with a plated CRF450X and was denied a plate last fall. So he traded his bike off for a KLR650.

So maybe you can get some weird stuff plated here, but not off-road or converted bikes.

Geez.. You'd think cops would have better things to do than track down people who have modified a bike to comply with the law. wtf

I've had the county come out and visually inspect every KTM I've registered. They were all legal DS's or my newer EXC. They were looking for dirt bikes.
