I'd be interested to know how you got out of Iowa?
Did you truck down and unload or bite the bullet and ride from home? I've had cabin fever for a while looking how to get out! Also got a new xc-w to play with.

Yeah I was hoping TSC had them so I could return it if it wasn't going to fit the way I hoped. There is a thread somewhere in here , where there are some pics of the tubes mounted on GS's, but I haven't seen pics of the way I would like to try.

You're right though, they are so cheap I should just get one and see if it will work.

Ride looked great.

The current collection:

'98 Guzzi V11 EV

'97 Guzzi 1100 Sport

'70 Honda CB175 (recently acquired and currently completely apart for restoration)

Past bikes, dirt and street, include:

(In order of acquisition)

'77 Honda XR75- given to me at the age of 9 (would like another for nostalgiac reasons, as well as for my young nieces/nephews and future kids of my own, and would pay almost anything for my old one back, regardless of current condition)

'89 Kawasaki KX125

'96 Honda CR125

*some years later*

'06 Kawasaki ZX6R

'94 Honda CB250 (bought for then g/f / now-fiancee to learn on, which didn't last long with her due to her hectic school and work schedule, but I had a surprising amount of fun on it myself)

'01 Kawasaki ZRX1200R

As previously mentioned, a dual-sport is certainly welcome to join the herd, but I'm currently on the hunt for a mint, bone-stock (or close to it) '96-'97 Ducati 900SS/CR or late '90's carb'ed/early '00's FI Ducati Monster 900. Red, of course.
Welcome to the forum QC, i'm somewhat new here myself. Live right next to ya here in bettendorf. Currently ride the dirt sikles more than the tenere but looking to change that.

The food is nothing to write home about but Misty's Malt shop in Keosaqua, IA along the Des Moines river makes a pretty mean milk shake. The riding in Keosaqua/Lacey State Park just across the river is pretty nice too.

Gina's did a Ride and Dine thing last year that came with a magazine that listed out over 200 small diners and restaurants throughout the state. Next time I'm in, I'll see if she has any more. Pretty handy to have on the bike.

Hwy 1 is one of my favorite ways to get down to 2 (2 gets better right at Farmington). Been by Misty's 5932769845 times but have never stopped.

Unfortunately, most of my favorites have closed. The Twisted Chicken in MacGregor, IA was fantastic but they were a bit too upscale for that town hehe.
Potter's Mill in Bellvue, IA had a great restaurant and bar plus a set of great rooms to stay in...but the older couple that own it were trying to sell it off last I heard.

I've been perusing this thread, and have realized that I never properly introduced myself here as an Iowan. So here's the scoop on me.

I've been on motorcycles most of my life. My first bike was a 1968 King O' Lawn Aggie bike. My dad bought it somewhere around 1982 for my older brother, and I learned to ride it the following year. After many decades of neglect, I drug that old carcass out of my dad's shed a couple of years ago:

I stripped her down, cleaned up all the rust and she's in running condition again.

Hopefully my boys will learn to ride on it in a few years.

From there, I graduated to a CT 70, then a CL100, then a Yamaha 125, then my last "dirt" bike was a CL350. I don't have any pics online of the first 3, but here's what the old 350 looked like before I stripped her for any remaining useful parts:

Who doesn't like pictures with sparks!?!

From there I bought my first street bike, a '78 CX500. I loved that bike - up until I washed it in a car wash and she dropped a cylinder. I managed to limp home and she never started again. I was going to dig into it, but about same time, my brother left home for the USAF and he sold me his '82 CX500 for $20. Drove that for several years until I bought an '86 VT700 Shadow. I may still have a pic or two of that laying around:

From there, I decided I needed something bigger and newer, so I bought my '05 Sabre in '08 with only 987 miles on her:

Currently, I have that bike, a '71 CB350 and a '94 KTM 620.

All the background on the KTM can be found here:
http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=866769

I've got big plans to do some adventuring on the KTM, but I work full time, am in school to get my Master's in Engineering and have 3 little kids (ages 3, 2, and 1) at home. So, time is sparse. But, I'm still holding on to the hope that I can do the GRGR here in a couple of months as well as a few trips to the local ORV parks this summer.
