The problem is, those dont show up around here very often, and while id be willing to drive a ways, or possibly do a fly and drive, but I havent been able to test drive one of these yet. I definately would want to test drive both before making my decision to see how well I like each, and if the 640s vibes will be too much for me.

I guess the main point of the post is that I want to test drive them before makimg a 5hr road trip or a fly and drive, and am hoping someone in the area would be willing to let me test drive theirs. (Im in the cedar rapids area) so if anyone has one of these in the area and is looking to sell, or willing to let me test drive, please send a pm.

Ron at MotoSports in Des Moines recently tried to convince me to buy a nice 640 that he had located. It was a standard 640 and not the Adventure 640. That may be what you are looking for, so you might give Ron and Doug and MotoSports a call. Another good source is the Craigslist consolidators like Claz (www.claz.org). But, you have to be careful if you go that route.

1st question is how tall are you?

You can try out my 2001 Adv and go from there.

I have a stock seat but I also have a Renazco that is 2 inches taller and wider.

I also have 2 inch risers on the bars.

My bike has a new drivetrain, rebuilt engine with bearing upgrade and new rebuilt rear suspension.

I'm 6'4" and weigh 260.

Ah, how hard is it to respring suspension? Or how much does it cost? As most of the bikes I see are sprung for people weighing more than myself.

For Doug at Motosports to rebuild the stock WP and install a new progressive spring for my weight was $442 all said and done.

She sure is nice. Feels very good with out my luggage on the bike. Very impressed.

I had a 640 Adventure and if you find one with the stock springs you will be ok. Most dirt bikes are sprung for people in the 160-180lb range, give or take 10lbs. I weighed 180lb at the time and I think I did put one heavier fork spring in, but I was also riding the bike aggressively in offroad terrain.

If you find a bike with stock suspension, you should be fine, unless it's completely worn out. Or if you buy a bike from a 300lber, hopefully they have saved the stock springs. And if you're searching for stock springs, there are plenty to be had used at next to nothing prices, because the big boned people have them laying on their shelves gathering dust.

weekend ride

Looking to do a weekend ride once it warms up a bit. Leaving on friday from Iowa City and coming back sunday. Planning on camping both nights and looking for recommendations for sites to see, great eats, routes, and campsites. Thanks in advance!
