I'm not really sure how everything happened, but there are a lot of neighborhoods in Detroit that are disappearing. When a house in Detroit gets damaged like that one in a fire, the value of the house is less than what it would cost to repair it, so it sits like that until the city tears it down (which could be years).

You can see more in my RR (link in my signature).

A northern suburb of Perth , WA , Australia brand new buildings , walkpaths etc... three locations populated: hospital, local watering hole and driving/riding licence center. Apart from that just dust and crickets.

Centralia

There are a few people that still live in Centralia, at least when I rode through a few years ago. It's a really weird place. Back in 1962, a trash dump somehow caught on fire, igniting an underground coal vein that is still burning TO THIS DAY! Smoke still rises from the ground in places, and where the vein has burned out, the ground can suddenly collapse. The main road has been closed due to this phenomenon, and a detour has been built.

The residents used to have to live with CO2 monitors in their houses. Now most of those houses have been leveled, and in some places all that is left is the concrete stairs that used to lead to a front door.

Note the bricks supporting this house. I assume it used to be a part of a bunch of row houses, all supporting each other. Most of the town's residents have relocated.

The book 'Unseen Danger' by David DeKok chronicles the entire disaster. A good read if you're into that kind of thing...

Belchite (Spain). Town destroyed during 1936 spanish civil war (this battle was in 1937). Franco's regime didin't reconstructed te place to use it for anti-communist propaganda (the place was destroyed during combats between "Nationals"(fascists) and "Republicans"(socialists), not only by one faction).

San José de los Jemez, New Mexico

The church dates from 1610, built by Franciscan monks. The pueblo is from the 1500's. The site is called the Jemez State Monument, about 40 miles from Bernalillo. This is spectacular country, especially for riding.
