Look at this company, i am quite interested to do a ride like this one. Not sure if I have the ride bike for it, i might need something lighter. Would love to do a desert ride.

Anybody interested to go to Argentina, January 3rd to watch the Dakar rally departure. I might go and would like to take my bike there. A friend of mine who works in the airline cargo business can fly the bike for a super duper price.

Yea. there is a thread here about that in ADV about that ride. But it is the same weekend as my Daytona race so I'm not gonna be able to go. When is the start of the Dakar. If the price is reasonable I would love to head down and go watch it. Let me know.

I saw the thread, but am not sure if it is the same company.

The Dakar, www.dakar.com starts January 3 - 18th, look at the web site. I am gonna start looking at the price of the airline ticket and accomodation. Argentina is cheap to our standard. Riding the country must be exhiliarating, going from Tierra del fuego in the south to the north thru the Andes.

There is a thread about the Dakar rally and some guys are already planning a trip to follow the rally by short cuts.

I Posted on it. Sounds like an amazing Idea. Would you be willing to ride down? Depending on the price of shipping It may be easier to just ship but lets see. Considering that racing the Dakar on 1 bike with one rider would be about 65,000 this would be on the cheap.

I don't have the time, money and equipment to ride down, but think that my friend can fly the bike for a very cheap price. I just need to know more about clearing custom to bring the bike inside Argentina on a temporary importation. The Argentinian consulate in Miami can help answer those questions. Another option would be to rent a Transalp in Bs. As. at http://www.motocare.com.ar/rental/

Normally you just put up a bond that you get back when you take the bike out of the country.

Nope. Amazingly enough. They basically picked the best riding/adventure resumes for the 20. Then asked us for 3 off road riding/racing references and 1 BMW dealership reference all of whom they called and interviewed. They then interviewed some of the riders and made a choice. I got the impression that they where a little overwhelmed. I can imagine, considering the 20 they had to pick from etc. The 6 they picked will have to go up to South Carolina and ride their asses off, I presume. If it was up to me, they would have lined up the 20 out in croom and set out a loop. Last 3 conscious go to Africa. lol

That would have been the best way!

I've got to give props to BMW for a great marketing ploy.

It is genius! The Camel Trophy practically made (sales wise) Land Rover in my opinion and hopefully this gives BMW motorcycles the same results. Anything that promotes motorcycling and rallying is a windfall for all of us IMO.

Why do these "Daytona" races keep conflicting with all the good stuff? What kind of offroad trails are in Daytona anyways?...and how does that compare to the Dakar rally? I am definitely interested in the rally and the shipping sounds great! Keep me posted...

The FTR ride sounds good but I don't know if the XR has a spark arrestor or not. You trailering up?
