Daytona is the shit! The asphalt enduro:

If your XR does not have an arrestor you can either buy one or wrap some fine steel mesh around the end cap and use a steel hose clamp to secure it. I don't trailer my CRF. I have a moto jack.

Tell me about it. I'm no stranger to mudfests, but dammit, I just cleaned out all 14 bearings on the CRF 1 ride ago. And dammit, it's white now!

Not so much. It is very sandy in that area and it did not rain as much as it did down here. looks good so far from the trail boss's reports.

What an eduro. It was brutal but fun. Half the 66 mile course was on a large sand ridge so it was perfect wet sand with no standing water and amazing grip. Then it got increasingly tight, and I mean tight as in switch backs through the woods hitting trees with both barkbusters at once. Then we got to the "low" areas. I was weaving past these mythical clay golems with their weird mounts that where stuck in the primordial goo. I was able to not join them by keeping smooth steady momentum through the grassy, marshy mud ruts that where peppered with downed pine branches and trunks. Shortly after the first "wet" area we got to the first checkpoint. I was on the time dead on! I was so exited that I took off down what looked like a nice sandy jeep trail and powered away. Not 20 feet from the checkpoint there was a rocky bottomed creek about 6 feet across with the far edge about a foot lower than the near lip. I had to just pre-load and hop over it. I actually cased the other side but came out unscathed. The jeep trail was a fantastic contrast to the 1rst gear woods riding and I enjoyed it tremendously. That is until the trail dove hard to the left, back into the woods and I blasted the berm to make the turn only to dive head on into the boggiest, muddies, deepest, nastiest swamp you have ever seen. There where 3 guys already stuck trying to pull their bikes out and there was no way around them so I ended up right in with them. That is what I get for flying blind into a corner. This mud was legendary. My bike has been much deeper in the past but this mud seemed to actually hold the tire down and no matter what I did I could not even pull the front tire out much less the rear. So there I spent the rest of the enduro. Flagging the people I should have been beating so they dont end up stuck too. Helping them beat my ass while wondering what sort of festering pathogens I was being exposed to knee high in the muck. And somehow it was fun.

Check out my choice campsite:
