Can we meet on Saturday at 9:30 at the Sunoco station there in Winsted, right next to the old Canton Cycles?

Sounds good. I'll be there.

I haven't ridden that beginning section. I always started in Sandisfield off 57 so this will be good. Weather looks great !!

As is usually the case when you make plans based on the weather, as the day approaches the weather turns to crap.

Saturday looks like 40% chance rain and snow. It is still 60% won't rain or snow. Sunday 30% rain or snow.

Just wait a couple of days it may be sunny and in the 70's.

Yup, it's not called "Adventure Touring" for nothing!
I think it just seems worse because of the beautiful weather we've had for the past few weeks. It is still March, after all. But wow, how many fantastic weekends did we have in a row there?

Friday Night:
Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in the evening, then overcast with a chance of snow. Low of 30F. Winds less than 5 mph. Chance of precipitation 40% with accumulations up to 1 in. possible.

When I look at the forecast, I'm looking at towns in the Berkshires. Make sure you're looking at that also, since a lot of the TMT is at higher elevation than the valley. I live at 1300' and the weather here can be very different than down 'in the city'. At least for here, the forecast isn't improving... having said that, my confidence in weather forecasting is slightly less than my confidence in winning tomorrow's lottery.

Friday Night

Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in the evening, then overcast with a chance of snow. Low of 30F. Winds less than 5 mph. Chance of precipitation 40% with accumulations up to 1 in. possible.

Saturday

Overcast with a chance of snow and rain showers in the morning, then mostly cloudy with a chance of snow and a chance of rain. High of 43F. Winds from the NNW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 40% with accumulations up to 1 in. possible.

not looking good for this weekend.

I checked Worthington weather since I think that is the highest elevation of the ride and it say up to 3 inches o wintery weather.

Maybe Sunday is better, or just cancel for this weekend.

I think a lot of the fun will be sogged away this weekend. There will be much more enjoyable weekends to go. Radar shows unpleasantness moving through New York now. Of course, I only speak for myself.

The highest point on the TMT, rather ironically, is a little ways after where the big washout was, on Curtin Road in Peru - just about 2,000 ft elevation. Right next door to Worthington. The same forecast though. I really enjoy riding in that area around dusk - fantastic sunsets. Just watch out for Moose that don't want to leave the road (Curtin Road), and aren't afraid of pidly humans on motorcycles. That's a lot less fun than it sounds.

I was holding off on a decision since the weather seemed questionable. Now I'm leaning heavily towards heading north some other weekend. I will ride in some cold, I will ride in some rain; but I've ridden a few times in cold rain or snow and that's just not much fun at all... It does make for an adventure though.

For those yet to make a decision, I can offer you the weather where I am, which is just a few miles east of the TMT, near where it crosses the Turnpike.
It's 35 degrees out and snowing at the moment.

3 of us went out Sunday instead. We hit some local roads in the southern hill towns. All the roads were in excellent condition. We did one section of the Trans-Mass and had no issues. We'll have to schedule this ride again.
