Labrador or bust.....

Evening Gents! In the morning, me and a buddy are headed to the great white north. Leaving from Atlanta, the plan is to head, via the BRP, to Montreal, Quebec then the Trans-Labrador highway. Afterwards, we'll be going through Newfoundland, Nova Scotia then back down South. I'll be on my KTM 990 ADV, and Darren on a 950. Lack of pavement isn't going to hamper our adventure, so hopefully we'll be able to share some good stories and pictures from some pretty out of the way places.

Stay tuned, this is going to be an adventure!

Here we go....

Greetings from Roanoke, VA. Day two of the trip. We left on Friday, and I knew when I was in trouble when Darren suggested we meet at the Taco Mac as a "jumping off" point. So after the obligatory chores (dog to boarding, bank deposit, turn off the water heater, hold the mail, etc...), I agreed. By the time I got there, Darren had already gotten a head start. Oh boy, I hope this is not a sign of what's to come.

Here's a pic of the both of us before taking off.

Day 1: had a nice but uneventful ride to Asheville, NC. It was 2PM by the time we got on the road, so it was pretty much dark by the time we got there. We checked into the local hotel and immediately went to the pub. Great place called "Jack of the Wood", where we had some beers and dinner. They had a great 30's jazz band, similar to the "Squirrel Nut Zippers". Place was packed. That is what I love about travel. You just never know what you are going to find or where you'll end up. We stayed most of the night and had a blast.

Attached are pics of an Aussie in his natural environment (in my best David Attenbourogh "It's fascinating to observe the Australian homosapien male feeding in his natural environment, which, apparently, he does quite often...")

Blue Ridge Parkway

Today, we headed up the Blue Ridge Parkway. Being Saturday, and a nice day at that, it was a little crowded, but we had fun. Taking all day to make it to Roanoke, we made a few stops - like the bike shop in Boone NC where I got my brakes bled (they were acting up a little)

and, of course, lot's of little scenic stops to take some "look, here's my bike in front of something pretty" pictures.

Tomorrow, it's a mad run for the border. We've got 2 days to get to the Canadian border, so looks like there will be some slabbin' in store for us. We're hoping to make it to Syracuse tomorrow, so we'll have a little time to go play in the Adarondacs the next day, on the way to Plattsberg, NY, where we plan to cross the border.

More soon,

James

We're going too.

A buddy on a KLR and myself on a Triumph Scrambler are leaving for Labrador on Aug. 13.

We'll look for you out on the road.

Today was a bit of a "work" day. We left Roanoke, VA around 8, and slabbed it up to Scranton, PA. I suppose every trip worth a ride report has those days, but the congestion on the highways on the east coast, combined with the rain made for a bit of a long day. I'm looking forward to the wide open roads in Canada, and hoping for drier weather.

There were a few highlights, however. Darrin bought an air freshener while I was filling up and put it on my bike when I wasn't looking. Was that a hint? Guess I should consider a shower soon....
