Self Indulgence

No new topic, just added some more piccies to a week old ride. Time and space come together in these parts. An hour away, if you have the time, is all the space you could need

Occasionally that space is also occupied by folk living off the land

or catching up on gossip

The food ain't bad either

But the company can be quite frightening in a Hannibal Lecter type way!!

Half an hour South of us and the landscape is totally different

10 minutes East of Kaputas and the ladies of Cafe Mola will refuel you for another lap, after they have finished looking at Dirks piccies

Four and a half years on and I still have to pinch myself from time to time

A big thanks to Kimangao for letting me use some of his pictures

Cheers,

Dickyb

My next mission is to explore inland from Kaş and Finike. Last weekend I took a photo from the exact same location from which your last photo was taken. Kaputaş ! Now if I could only override the "only administrators can add new devices" message on this laptop, I could post a few pics from my ride.

I was riding from Kaş to Ankara last Sunday. I am almost certain that I ran into this couple in Antalya. It was a quick "where are you heading" sort of encounter at a traffic light in Antlaya. I believe they said they were on their way to Konya that day. Could this be them?[/quote]

Hi Strommer,

They are in Ankara now waiting for their Indian visa which should be ready on Friday. Gert can be contacted at
gertstevens84@yahoo.com

Cheers,

Since Kimangao (aka Dirk the Crazy German) left to continue on his travels I've found the pups adopting strange poses and generally playing up to the camera. Jasper looking magnificent, well in his eyes

Blaize on the lookout for some leberwurst

Right pups, stop playing about. The photogapher has left the building

Sadly the missus wont be leaving any buildings in much of a hurry for a while to come. The broken foot hasn't mended and it's more time hobbling about on crutches

Back to biking soon as I can get a wife/dog sitter

Cheers,

Dickyb

I don't think so. She's only 1 metre at the shoulders. She has recently recovered from a nasty bout of Leishmanisia ( a parasitic blood infection similar to Malaria in humans). It was touch and go, we nearly lost her, but now she's happy tearing about with the five other rescued mutts.

This was her as a pup before the onset of the disease.

Cheers,

Dickyb

To Demre and St Nicholas

İf you follow the D400, mentioned in Strommers post

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...1#post11141101

past Kas you will come to Demre. The road on the way is rather pleasant

Taking a fork off the main road brought me to to a strange sign

Aha, a driving school. Apparently the locals like to practice before hitting the road or the central reservation unlike we Brits who prefer to unleash mayhem on the public highway. Must admit I've never atually seen anyone careening aound one of these places.

Further along the road drops down to Adriake

....................To the East of which are the geenhouses of Demre which play their part in keeping the worlds tables supplied with tomato ketchup

Adriake was an important port in years gone by. There are ruins dotted all over the place. The main business today is ferrying tourists across to the local islands including Kekova.

Further along you come across a sandy beach somewhat reminiscent of Blackpool without the pier, donkeys, candy floss stalls and Kiss me Quick hats. İn fact devoid of anything interesting whatsoever.

The view further along though is nice

though dotted along the way with the empty shells of some folks dreams

..........Grand villas dominate the high ground (Beauty being in the eye of the beholder, etc)

While less permanent looking habitats, on wheels, line the shore.
