What route do you take to that 'golu' from Kas ? Might just have to add it to my ever-ending places to see on my Turkish list !

.........Had to pop into Kas for supplies. Bayram, one of my Sunday riding buddies, was road testing a customers bike. Bayram is an ace mechanic

Out to sea I saw the Guvenlik (Turkish customs) on the lookout for Turkish Delight smugglers

Better head home before they catch me

Cheers,

Dickyb

Elmali and beyond.

Just over an hour inland from the coast lies the town of Elmali. A fairly cosmopolitan place nestled in the bosom of the Elmali (apple) mountains. At around 3000ft in elevation the town is considerably cooler than Kas on the coast, a blessing in summer.

Old houses dominate the skyline of the old town

Some in a better state of repair than others

The centre of town is dominated by a massive creation

...............Riding from Elmali to Finike, on the coast, brings you past Avlan lake which is only a lake in winter and is home to Herons, storks and ducks. During the summer its a parched area of land.

Quite a pleasant place, really

Big hills and bigger Fish

Burkhard is back in town. Time for a ride. Here he is gunning his XT600 to gather a bit of momentum

Ooh, there he goes

Now Burkhard is the wrong side of sixty but the man has no fear Zeki, however, was less than impressed with my efforts

Currently there is a lot of melt water flowing down the rivers. An ideal time for a spot of fishing. Mehmet managed to bag himself an XT350

Zeki went one better and hooked a DRZ 400 which had been floating on its belly.

Mehmet had to help him land his catch

Amazingly both bikes started after a few kicks/pushes on the starter.

I'm off back out tomorrow to see if I can bag myself some interesting flotsam

Cheers,

Dickyb

The Road of Stones

The forest tracks round these parts can turn into roads of stones after the winter deluges have washed the top soil away but that doesn't stop Metemet (or Mad Mehmet as he's known around these parts).

Today was pretty damp but that didn't stop Metemet getting damper

Here is the star of todays show rescuing my bike after I'd binned it on a corner cracking my knee, head and b.......ks on some quality Turkish limestone. The bike didn't look too clever either

Whilst Metemet slaked his thirst in an animal trough I stuffed my face with Zeki's biscuits when he wasn't looking, sheltering from the rain on somebody's porch

Eventually the rain stopped, briefly, and we packed up and pootled off

...................seconds later and we were dodging cats and dogs again. Soaked to the skin and covered in mud we did the only sensible thing and took refuge in Metemet's dad's locanta.

Where Zeki momentarily became Melik's (Metemet's daughter) new best friend

Until, of course, her dolls came out to play

....................With the youngster suitably distracted we could get on with the serious business of polishing off the feast laid on by Duriye (Metemet's Mrs).

Metemet might be along later with a couple of photos of the slimy conditions. Me, I was too scared of trashing my camera after doing a fairly good job of trashing my bike.

Cheers,

Dickyb

Fethiye bits and bobs

Some time ago Mehmet and I had the pleasure of a trip to Fethiye to collect a bike for an English pal. He had bought it sight unseen, fortunately it was a good 'un

Now Fethiye' in days of yore, used to be known as the Lycian town of Telmessos. In 1934 the name was changed to honour the first Turkish air martyr, Fethi Bey. In 1957 the town was flattened by an earthquake. If you look hard you can still see signs of the damage

These days Fethiye is a busy tourist destination for the yachting set and others and it ain't hard to see why
