Holy cow.. I was back in the D for two weeks and damn, I forgot how bad the roads are. I'm going to have to bring a "beschädigte Fahrbahn" (road surface damage) sign home with me. Maybe a "Spurillen" (ruts) sign, too.

I'm on the hunt for a relatively cheap ($1000-1250) 125 two stroke for a single track bike (the XR650R is great for ORV and dual sporting but is a nightmare on the tight stuff). If anyone has the inside line on one, please shoot me a PM.

Thanks.

Public service announcement.

This weekend is the MX outdoor nationals at RedBud.
http://www.redbudmx.com/index.htm

Any of you motivated FF's looking for a ride destination this weekend, this should be at the top of your list. Think you are fast? Hmm..maybe not. It's a very humbling experience to observe some of the best/fastest riders in the world bashing it out on the track for cash and glory. The party in the camp grounds are better left undocumented The back roads leading into the area are a nice ride. So, check your calendars, plot your route charts and GPS, and head on out. The circus only comes to town once a year.

Riding in upper Keweenaw Penninsula

Went up to Copper Harbor last weekend and was quite disappointed. 90% off the the trails up there are now restricted to 2 wheeled traffic only ATV or Side by Side allowed . Not sure how strongly this is enforced but did not want to risk running into DNR on a Holiday weekend. However we still managed to find some nice trails.

It was quite a bit steeper than it looks(pictures are deceiving)

It seems like this is happening more and more as the side by sides are becoming more popular. I don't understand the logic in excluding motorcycles, though. Do people think that motorcycles are more destructive, louder, etc?

Wasn't there a death a few years ago on the private land that some of these trails cross?

The Lake Superior Performance Rally lost access to a lot of the roads near Copper Harbor that they had run for years.

Land company GMO does not want motorcycles on their property. Story goes that a biker was hurt on their land and sued them (in another State). They have worked with the local ATV club to close the roads to any vehicular traffic except ATV and UTV (no full size, no bikes, doesn't matter on street legal).
DNR law enforcement says they will not enforce it, unless you are "doing something stupid". I think most folks will take your stance and avoid the potential ticket. Too bad as it really can work to hurt the tourism they are trying to promote.

Seems kind of silly. Just because it happened to be a biker killed, doesn't mean it couldn't be a quad rider next time. Unless they see this as a way of punishing all motorcycle riders.
