Ural Opinions Please!

I am about to pull the trigger on a 2006 GU fro 8695.00, can I get some advice if this is a good deal and if there is anything I need to address when going to pick it up? Here are the details;

2006 Ural Gear Up
Approx 4000 KM Excellent condition with no known problems
Only off road one time for approx 1/2 mile
New rear motorcycle tire with good condition tires on others
All service performed (more often than Ural recommends
Garaged.
Covered when not in garage.
Includes misc spare parts (oil filter, spark plugs, oil, etc.)]Upgrades include:
Camo seat covers for motorcycl
Camo fairing Hack windshield
Camo crash bar on hack
Deep oil sump with associated pickup
Timken wheel bearings on all front, rear and hack wheel Lowers (not mounted)

As you probably know, $8695 is the KBB RETAIL value. I would not want to pay that in a private sale but you may think the low miles, condition, convenience are worth a little extra.


I do have to question the seller's judgement though. Why the hell did he purchase a camo'd 2wd and not take it off-road?

I don't think it's that good of a deal. Sounds very nice, but it's not a deal. I just bought a 2007 GU (Arctic!) and really enjoy it. I did, ummm, buy new, but did a ton of research on used and spend quite a bit of time researching prices and seeing what they actually sold for. If it were me, I'd start at 7600 and settle for 8000$.

Make sure you get a dog to go with it...

ya I agree I would love to talk the seller down a bit more but no dice......furthermore to find a used GU is crazy, I have seen two in the year I have been looking. There is no way I will buy new out the door is over 15K, and that is just not a possibility for me now. So the way I figure it, I can buy at $8695 which is kbb retail, and then I will sell some of the accessories I have no desire to keep such as the windshields on both the hack and bike, used they should bring around 300.00. So I guess the question is now is I am just to excited to get it or should I look around some more?

I think we're on the same page here. $8000 is what I was thinking too, but if its a nice bike and the choices have been slim... Who's to say whether a better deal may come along, and if it does, that there won't be some surprise repair costing most of that $695?

I wouldn't be in a hurry to dump the accesories though. The sidecar windshield goes a long way towards passenger comfort. I know several of us that use a windshield on the bike to make winter riding more pleasurable then pull them come springtime.

Does it come with the stock sump? You might want to consider that if you're going to off-road it.

If you want it buy it. i have bean looking for a sidecar rig for about a year and a half. I wont/cant pay what other people will. I would love an 05 or newer GU. these bikes seam to have much higher resale value than they should. the reason is people want them and as you already know there are not alot for sale. most of the ones for sale have low miles like your unit. people find out that living with these type of bikes are not what they had thought. if you want one NOW pay the money. if you want a DEAL you will have to wait.

Well.....considering the only other used GU out there that I can find is a 04 for sale by Crawford Sales in MI for $7500.00. The problem is with shipping this will be back in the 8K range for me and it is two years older then the 06 I am currently eye balling for $8695.

The thing that makes me laugh is the NADA price on Urals, are they kidding me high retail is $6200 and low is $4700 for an 06. Wow if only one could be found for that. It seems KBB is more in touch with the prices these days.

Oh well its only money......and I want one now.

Never be afraid to get exactly want you want, that way you won't be dissappointed.

In the great vortex of time is money, if 700 bucks is the diff between hardship and a better standard of living, then don't do it. I myself am completely capable of pissing away 700 bucks on a perceived "Good idea at the time".

If you want it, go for it. What's money for, if not to make you happy ?

Buy it, then ride the snot out of it.

If you really want the GU from Crawford's, I can ride it to Utah

Well Doodie,I'll say get it.....as was said,there aren't many to choose from,and the one you describe sounds like it's been taken care of.
Urals are like some other atypical vehicles when it comes to 'stated book
values'....they don't necessarily follow them. I purchased my '02 new,
for $9K,it's now supposedly worth less than half that much,according to
those 'professional valuation institutions'....BFD.

Buy & enjoy it....
