Cylinder/coolant issue

Anyone have accurate numbers on how many MTS's have been affected??? Just want my decision to be based on the best info, no dealer closer than 140 or so miles, so I'd like to see this cleared up BEFORE I buy.

What's to clear up? I just had mine changed on a dealer recall. No cost.

This is a used bike which the owner purchased last summer, dealer closer to him than me, just want it taken care of before riding season is over here in snow country.

So then there is a recall? More reason to see it is done by the present owner.

Bruce, in fairness, it's not a recall but a "technical service bulletin."

Regards,

Ah, I see. I had assumed you were looking at a new bike.

Sure, why not. Every bike has something that can keep you up at night and until it happens I'll look after it and enjoy what is for me one of the best bikes I've owned.

Beemers have a rep for issues and yet in all the ones I've owned and rented and crossed continents on, I've never had one mechanical failure. Go figure.

i don't think you answered my question regarding the Multistrada situation, specifically. do you think that the coolant change has remedied any problems that might have pre-existed due to the wrong coolant being used.

i'm with you in regards to the BMWs.

It would certainly be nice to have a technical or engineering explanation in plain English as to how the difference in a coolants chemical composition may cause coolant "to escape into the cylinder". Seems to me there must be a "path".

Yes, no, I don't care if the factory says it fixes something and they paid for it, then as I said I'm good to go. You either trust their engineers know what they are doing or you don't and you sell the bike and buy something else.

Apart from monitoring for issues, what else should I do

I'm not pushing the sale as I have other things that need my attention my right now. It's on consignment at a nearby dealership (Elk Grove Powersports) and they're the ones driving the deal for now (advertising, etc). Once a few things get cleared off my plate, I'll focus more on selling it. Until then, it's their show.
