I read a rumor somewhere that there's a "Rock" version that will be released later with better crash protection and a 19" front wheel (I think).

You nailed it. The GS is a brilliant all-around motorcycle, and possibly up until now my vote for the best bike to own if you can only have one. The fact that BMW has convinced so many riders that the leviathan is a suitable off-road machine, particular in Adventure dress, just shows the power of BMW marketing.
