high pipes ...

heck my first bike was a Yamaha HS1 ... almost new exccept the original owner ran it into some mailboxes and wiped out the front wheel and forks

I ordered a wheel and got a hub, rim and spokes

as an eager to ride youngster, I figured out how to lace the spokes and made a truing stand from 2X4s ... used a pencil to mark the rim rather like using a dial indicator ... took me a week to get it trued up
put it on for a real ride (I was riding the yard learning how to shift gears) and it was grinding terribly at the hub

I was understandably upset so I returned the wheel to the local yamaha shop where the parts guy realized he ordered a hub for an HT1 (90cc enduro) ... he reordered and they laced and trued the new assembly, but the mechanic was amazed that a 14 yr old got a wheel as trued as I did, which earned me respect and an offer of small jobs, like oil changes etc.

now since I wax loquacious I'll end by saying the HS1 was a powerhouse

a 90cc 2 smoke twin!!!
street bike, low pipes and all!!!

and it got ridden anywhere coastal NC had to offer, I remember how in water crossings the pipes sounded like my outboard

I looked and found a pic online (not mine but same color)

talk about "adventure riding" ...

Bruced!!!!

Doesn't matter. i had a great ride and it's been forever since I've been on 209. I'll have to head that way again to do some more exploring. Thanks Cuttle for a nice ride. I knew I was bruced when I saw the fresh motorcycle tracks but I was certain it was the yellow GS I passed on the way to Baltimore Branch Rd just outside of Luck.

Yes it was on 1151. See my tag post, I have since edited it for clarity.

New tag will be up late, or in the morning. I am running around crazy trying to buy a house...and get a new tag up. Maybe I do have a file pic....

Tag #246

This little Church lies between a community in which I am providing a clue and a park on the BRP. This road that links this community with the BRP park is partially dirt.

The clue for the community is: This gentleman lived here for part of his life, LAMAR STRINGFIELD 1897-1959. This gentleman has a historical marker in Raleigh NC on Person St.

I'm not finding it. Interesting facts about Mr. Stringfield but I can't find any mention of a home in Western NC. Maybe someone more adept at being a google jock will find it.

Hey lgajohnymac,
Is that a crutch strapped to the back of your Versys?

Is it related to his time studying at Mars Hill College?
If so, I'm pretty sure I know what road you're talking about.
Guess I'll have to wait for someone to grab it to find out.

I LOVE the crutch! Ride through the pain! The only other place I've seen that is Mad Max.

I will add that there is a guy that rides a stock bike around here that only has an arm and a half. I think he was born that way, but have never talked to him.

He still waves.

I have a lot of respect for the guy, I hope no one thinks I'm making fun of him.

Yes its a crutch

Actually its two

I have to hop around when just moving short distances....

I am not supposed to be weight bearing for another 4 weeks

Cuttle if you go get this be sure to put it where we can keep up the ping pong

Also, dont think too much about the clue, it was just a pointer to the info on the marker, which you google jocks should be able to find.

Where I grew up there was a guy who rode with only one arm. He had the bike modified so all the controls were on the one side. Got him to walk me through all the things there once. I didn't ask and I don't remember him offering to let me try riding that setup. I'm remembering him having his left arm. That was back in the '70s so LOTS of things are fuzzy.
