MapSource
I have a Zumo 550 and, like most that I've heard of, use Mapsource on the computer.
The MapSource version I have is 6.13.4. Does anyone know if there is a later version, and if so, would I have to go buy it or is it available free to registered Garmin users. Thanks.

The latest version v6.14.1 is available here; MapSource Note this is the viewing and loading program only and does not include any maps. This version has a pretty new interface and is quite slow. It also has problems with many third party maps The previous version is available here - MapSource v6.13.7 . |

Thanks Dave. So, from what you and Burnie are saying, I should perhaps go with the earlier version? Next dumb question. When I download it, do I just put in my 'Tracks for Australia' and 'City Navigator' and take it from there?

Use MapSource v6.13.7
If you already have maps installed it will just update the viewing and loading program and you will not have to reload your maps . |

I downloaded 14 today...it works fine for me.
Edit: I actually like Google maps better....it is easier to navigate, and the map detail is superior...

If you download and install MapSource v6.14.1 and it causes problems with your third party maps do NOT de-install it.
Just download MS v6.13.7 and install it over top and it will be fine again . |

Hi Burnie
Ive got a Garmin 296 which I use for work. Ive been thinking of buying the mapsource program for roads. Is the new version that has been mentioned here going to cause me grief too if I buy it? |

The new version is slow - i thought it was my PC ! Although it looks good. Stay with the earlier version for the moment.

Sorry Burnie. My computer and programme skills are a bit like my riding. Are you saying I just download it and it installs itself over the top of the old version and city nav etc just remain as is?

I am going back to the previous version as Burnie suggests (actually because he suggested it)
Because of next years trip I have to learn Mapsource and MS Streets & Trips of the US so I can do it in my sleep, standing on my head in a downpour. This current latest version is just TOO slow. It's pretty, but I don't need pretty I need fast. |

Sounds like you are looking at MapSource City Navigator Australia which does 'turn by turn' auto-routing. All Garmin mapping products are called MapSource something. Should be fine Don't forget that you need to buy a Garmin format 256MB data card as well to load the maps . |
