Dead batteries are 'funner' at the begining of the ride than in the middle.
Saturday.
Gorgeous out. Sunny, but cool. I've been in bed straight for the last 7 days and 5 before that. Finally started to feel human yesterday and vowed to ride today. Even if for just a short coast loop. Lunch, mail and home.......... The southernmost shore of the Nicasio Resevoir........... ![]() The Tiger mingling with (spying on) the heifers.... ![]() Would not want to meet with the business end of that in a dark alley! ![]() ![]() ![]() So I arrive in Pt Reyes, hungry as a bear..... My mission? Pancakes. My distraction? New Motto Guzzi at the gas station......... ![]() Ohhh..I was just looking at pictures of this bike last night!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks to these guys, who turned out to be ADV'ers, for letting me geek out for a few! ![]() We chatted about the Guzzis and the triumphs for a few and just as I was saying 'no real complaints with the Tiger, see you guys later and I think I'm going to head out to the light house'........... Ignition.......... Nothing............ X5............ I had already given them the thumbs up sign and they were gone........ So, I figure I'll try the obvious, check all the connections...... Check. Ingnition... Nothing...... X5 now. So I fiddle for an hour. Almost starts a few times, enough to give you that false sense of hope..... Everyone I knew in the area was out and about, so no luck with any phone calls. And every bike that stopped to this point admitted they were 'not a mechanic' and said the same thing........'Check your connections'. I hope my 7th thanks sounded as genuine as the first. Finally, a super nice kid on a crotch rocket came over to ask what was up. Told him what I was trying to do and that I wasn't sure if bump starting it would solve the problem.... He said 'let's try to jump it'. He went off and found some cables and came back. What a good boy!!! ![]() Took us about 10 min or so..... Finally, Ignition.... Success!! Now frustrated, happy and hot, I decide it's in my best interest to get the bike in to see what's going on. Hopefully it's just the battery.... the darth peach screwed with this post 01-10-2009 at 09:24 PM |

So much for the light house.........
Off to San Francisco........
A quick change of direction........ ![]() And a quick change of scenery.......... ![]() I made it to Munroe Motors and they took my bike right in to have a look at the problem........ Thought I'd go outside and have a look at the demo bikes....... ![]() ![]() ![]() Just as I was contemplating a test ride, I hear "TROUBLE!! What are you doing here?!" from across the street..... HEY!! It's Patrick! Crazy Irishman!! Last time I saw him he was gimpy after being hit on his motorcycle on the GGB years ago! ALWAYS good to see your friends upright and healthy!! ![]() My bike is done now. A new battery. Let's hope that's all it is....... Off to the Embarcadero to take the scenic route back to the bridge........ Look at this! ![]() And THIS!! ![]() ![]() The Bay Bridge Peach...... ![]() |

A new battery. How old was the one in there? I've had the same problem with one BMW with a cell going bad and lucky enough that it was still under the 3 year warranty by 2 months.
Beautiful pictures as usual.

Good to see you out and about again. Great pix as usual.
If'n you get anywhere near the Ontario/Michigan interface, I'll buy you a coffee or barley pop, whichever is appropriate.

Great shots again.
I've got a new battery for the GS sitting on the stairs right now. Too cold and too busy to ride. Maybe I'll install it this afternoon.

Battery Trouble SUCKS!
I had my wing on a battery tender the first time I deployed to the Persian Gulf in 2007. When I got home it was unplugged. When I asked my lovely wife about it she says "The LED turned GREEN so I unplugged it!"
![]() About a month after I got back I'm done gassing up the Gold Wing and I hit the starterbutton only to hear "CLICK" No a bike you can bump-start solo either!I shut it off, waited 2 min and the next try it S L O W L Y cranked over but started ![]() Off to the dealer to get a new battery despite having a tender - oh well! This past deployment she knew better and left the tender plugged in!!! Live and Learn. ANYWAY, I'm now going to have a tender hookup permanently hooked up to the bike and just plug it in when I'm not riding to keep the battery 100% since I use so many electrical goodies (like most wingers I like my "toys" ) I used an Xtreme charger, it costs a little more but it "pulse charges" teh battery to prevent what they call "Sulfation" which kills batteries. http://www.xtremechargers.com/ It costs about $100 which is expensive, but if my batteries last 2-3x as long then it pays for itself (vs payin' $150 a pop for a GL1800 battery!!)
