Yesterday at Olompali State Park.

I can't remember what they called this big kettle/pot, but it was in active use for cooking at one time.......

This is called 'the salt house'.....

And this is 'salty' taking a break.........
I love what the leathers do for me in this pic

This is called 'kitchen rock'.
Apparently it was used by the Miwok Indians (native Americans) in a mortar/ pestle type application to grind corn and other things......
Very cool.

Great pics!! I love old buildings!! I could spend days and days poking thru old barns, abandoned houses and such, especially around the area where my folks live...unfortunately, I would end up getting shot by some old farmer

It looks like a scalding kettle. After a hog was butchered, it was dipped in hot water to loosen the hair, so that it could be scraped off.

You don't want hair on your ham or bacon, do you?

this pic makes me think of Bugs Bunny. Wabbit (peach) stew??? some carrots, a little celery, some potatoes, and some Tabasco & chili peppers no???

great pics, and thanks for the entertainment. Its much needed as I sit here awaiting a foot of snow for tomorrow. Winter never bothered me.... until I started riding. Now I daydream of relocating somewhere just for the riding.

FYI It's probably called the Salt House because it's a Saltbox house. The roof line resembles a salt baox from the period when these houses were originally built.
