Day 8

430 smoke filled miles.
Prince George to Chilliwack
to catch the ferry the next afternoon out of Vancouver.

This day was pretty much a blur.
About 10 hours with fuel stops on the bike.
Not so bad, but the air was thick.
Everything was muted by the fire haze.

Except for these hay bales.....

HAZE....

Stopped here to take off rain gear.......
Rained hard about 3 different times..
another reason for lack of pictures..

And the setting sun....

Those, my friends, were the HIGHLIGHTS from Day 8....

Day 9

Ferry Day.
Vancouver Island day.

Originally, I had planned on at least being a day out from home at this point.
But things were going good.
Really good.
Unusually good.
and quiet.

At home I kind of roll along with one eye peeled all the time.
Like Wyle E Coyote and the ever appearing anvil dropping on his head.
To say that weird random stuff happens all the time to me
is an understatement.

9 days with no real drama was a dream.

Let's see if I can't keep this boat afloat for a few more days.

Rolling through Vancouver,
the Tiger lays it's sights on a smallish prey.
There's only one thing a Tiger likes more than bacon,
CANADIAN BACON!!!

And it appears to be quite the buffet this morning!

Tunnel...

Ordered to zip by this long line of cars was kind of fun.
I felt like a kid in a candy store right now.
Another day of firsts.
First trip on a ferry with the bike.
I don't know why, but for the rest of the day, everything just seemed exciting.
Except for the screaming toddlers on the boat.
I guess it's not polite to offer other people's children benedryl.
Who knew?

All aboard!!

Sorry, but it's pretty cool to ride your bike on to a boat...

I had packed my straps in anticipation of needing to tie down on the ferry.
In fact, I even stressed out a little about it.

All the usual concerns, 'what if I don't tie it right and my bike drops'
or 'what if I don't tie it right and my bike drops'.
And then there was the 'what if I don't tie it right and my bike drops'

Naturally, there's no place to tie to and it's a 'side stand down' ride with complimentary chocks,
served up with a damage waiver to sign la carte.

AKA the nail bite cruise.

Enlarged to show texture....

.......a velcro tie strap or even a hair scrungie/ponytail wapped around the front brake lever to lock up the front wheel while parked is an easy tip for ferry usage......

no tie downs

most ferries i have been on tie the bike down for you, or a couple of ferries in Norway gave me the straps to do it myself. usually at least the big trucks get tied down (obviously with big straps)
