Waiting patiently for more of the Darth Peach's excellent photography and wonderful sense of humor.

birthday ride 2011

Spiders.
Not my favorite thing.
This one got a pass because it was very tiny and was sporting a cool shadow....

After a pot of coffee and a test of my attention span in the form of 322 pages of microscopic print courtesy of the Nikon Corp,
I decide it's time to make tracks.....

Just ouside of Bridgeport towards Yosemite....
pages 1-113 already forgotten....

The lovely Mono Lake...
pages 114-192.
Out as well.

The lovely Triumph Tiger.....
Manual? What manual?

Just a lovely day...

And the not so lovely tripod...
one of those 'notes to self' I forgot to read..

Thanks, but so far there has only been one Nikon pic up.
The rest are a mix of Iphone, Canon and Lumix.

Almost seemed like a waste to lug it along on this trip.
With out the proper lens, the shots I had envisioned where not doable.
I did get a few cool ones though….
coming up later

The smell at the moving shoreline kept me from doing that

That's cause it's kind of rendering the oils/fats out of your skin...sort of turning your essence into your very own larryboy soap...

Lye has a pH around 13, Mono Lake is around 10.

Quote:
High concentrations of carbonates in Mono Lake make it very alkaline. The pH of Mono Lake is approximately 10 (this measure of alkalinity is roughly equivalent to household glass cleaner). Because of this high alkalinity, Mono Lake water tastes bitter and feels slippery. Some observers of Mono Lake water claim it feels and behaves a lot like soapy water (sulfates and carbonates are a factor). William Brewer no doubt found this to be the case; however, you may not wish to repeat Mr. Brewer's laundry experiment--Mono Lake water has a high enough pH to deteriorate clothing and footwear after repeated soakings
Love the photos. Manfrotto and Slik both make some nice, lightweight tripods that pack down to a pretty small size. They're kind of spendy, but they'd be a lot easier to pack than that beast.

Yeah, it is nasty the closer you get to the water.

Shoreflies and what appears to be the casings of some sort of larvae or feces.
Smells like rotten lakeweed and gull poop.
