Oy. A driveway that looks like that is right up my alley...no pun intended.

Just had to take a look at your favorite bridge but... I did not try to take a pic riding down the bridge like you do. I hope you had a better view of the eclipse than the one I had from Palm Spring?

Great view from this lookout and a perfect location for a "Peach Pose" You can always find a volunteer to take a pic.

Just south of Petaluma, love the rolling hills on that part of hwy 1

I have been watching this thread on and off for a while. First let me say, your pics are incredible! I don't mean to be intrusive or off topic, but I am looking at a tiger 1050 and was curious of your opinions on the bike. I know you probably like it or love it as you have it and seem to ride all over the west coast.

I am looking at it for a long hauler though, thousands miles trips and camping off it, not too much of the serious off road, some gravel and dirt though. I would truely love your thoughts on it.

You are right, I have ridden it over quite a bit of the west coast, from the mexican border to the Alaskan border and then some.
The current bike is an '09 1050 tiger with roughly 34k mi on it, it's been on road, off road, to the opera house, ER and a wedding or 3.
The last trip up north was 4300 mi with ZERO issues.
If you are not going to do serious off road riding, this sounds like the perfect bike for you.
It's comfortable, powerful, balanced, decent on fuel and very easy on the eye.

Truckee and Pyramid Lake, NV

Woke up to a clear blue sky and nothing on the agenda other than to ride and maybe plant myself somewhere
cool to watch the eclipse
and create job security for my new optometrist

Here we go.....

For some unknown reason, I leave the comfort and serenity of the mountains and trees
and venture to see what lies past Reno....

A whole lot of nothing...

And at some point between 'why am I doing this'
and 'where am I going'
and 'you know you kind of have to be home tonight',
I decided to head west back toward Reno, check out the turn off that said Pyramid Lake
and to not even attempt to google it or look at my iGPS.
Worst case scenario I see a muddy puddle of water, right?....

Mesmerized by the beauty and surprise of this oasis,
Dummy decides it would be awesome to get close to the water to get this next picture,
and hey, why not?
I had just seen 2 other trucks pull off the road and drive way back on the dirt....

Can you guess what one of the trucks I saw was?
And can you guess what my response was when he asked me for my permit?

Anyway, I learned the weird way that you have to have a permit to go anywhere off the main paved road
and for $65 learned that particular permit costs $7.
And no, you can't tape your ticket to your windscreen and use that as a permit for the rest of the day.

So I guess this is what one would describe as 'the money shot'...
Taken with the rangers' permission, of course..

Re: Permit. It seems the communist legislature in the PRC have decided to raid the OHV fund to prop up the hopelessly deficit-ridden punch line called the state "budget". Sleep well knowing your fine will help the bankrupt state to prolong the inevitable by 0.01 seconds or so. No, I'm not pissed. I LOVE my state's government.
Rant off. Beer time.

Well, here's how I see it.
There were signs stating you had to get a permit.
I didn't see them.
I did after I was made aware.
$7 is cheap to play all over the res.
$65 isn't a terrible slap on the hand for not paying attention to the rules.
There wasn't one peice of trash anywhere, the area was really well maintained and the ranger was
just doing his job and was extremely polite.
If any of my $$ went to pay for that, not a bad thing.

Now I know, and now anyone who reads this knows.

You must pay before you play off road at Pyramid Lake in the lovely state of Nevada!

I'd also like to ask to keep political opinions out of this thread.
Thanks!

Not bad.
Kind of got them by default.

A miscom ended up with these tires instead of the PR2's on my bike.
But, not bad and they hook up pretty good in the turns
