Flat Tire?

On one of my first dates with my wife we went on a bicycle ride. I got a flat about 6 miles from my truck. I cut off my jeans and sliced my shirt up and shoved them and some leaves into the tire. It was a wobbly ride but I rode it back. This may be a valid temp fix on a dirtbike if your britches are thick enough. My wife thought I was a superhero too.

I am a freaking genius. You know when you have those eureka moments, and its like whooolly cow!? Well heres mine from today.

Was working on some fork seals and was having a tough time getting the seal in. Thought it would be nice to have some type of seal drive that fit around the lower tube. Glancing around my shop I was thinkin maybe an old license plate, or what about a cardboard roll from a roll of paper towels, or the inside of a roll of electric tape, or, wait.... Electric tape!!! (lightbulb over smiley face smiley here)

Wrapped the lower tube in electric tape with about 1/8" thick, used the tube and tape to pop the seal right in! Pics to follow...

Heres what I mean. Fork Seal Installation with Electrical Tape:

Clean the oil of the tube, wrap a buncha tape around it.

Slide the tube down so the ring of tape pushes the seal in:

And Walla:

Seal installed! Grab the end of the tape and yank- it just spins right off!

I just spent little over an hour trying to get fork seals to seat before giving up and mounting tires (which I pinched and threw in the towel for the night). I'll hafta give that a try.

Nice one, DP! And good thing you wrapped it wide enough to press on the seal flange. If the wrap is too narrow, it will invert the seal.

Yeah, make it plenty wide. it also helps to wipe the oil residue off of the tube before you wrap it with the tape...

Pissed Jumper cables made from alluminum foil.

No tools to remove battery and desperately needed jumper cables to reach 20 feet. Found a roll of allumium foil and decided to unroll two pieces and squeeze it into the shape of large wires. Using great care to make sure they did not touch each other I carefully connected them to the battery posts and waited a half hour for the two batteries to equalize the voltage. Then carefully removed the exceptionally dangerous jumper cables and the vehicle started on the first try. Very scary with the chassis being connected to ground and all but with great caution it is workable in a crisis. Great way to start a campfire with your vehicle if you are not super careful or if the wind is blowing. I supose I could have made an insulating layer out of a roll of wax paper or some duck tape. Definately would not recommend it except in the worse circumstances.

PineSol. Interesting. Now I'll have to try that first since it involves less work.
