Two excellent pie destinations, within an easy ride.

I went to Ames, Ia for fish and chips.

It would have been smart to have wired a pigtail on to the Bonneville so that I could have used the electrics, but nooooooooooooooooo I just had to "layer up".

I got cold.

But, it warmed up eventually, and it was a fine day.

Town Hall Tap owners planning another restaurant


FIELD — The owners of Town Hall Tap are working to purchase Skylane Bowling to build an additional site at 5019 34th Ave. S.


“It will be a really relaxing space, despite being a bowling alley,” said Pete Rifakes, co-owner of Town Hall Tap. “It will be something you have come to expect from Town Hall.”


Town Hall Tap was a hit when it opened two years ago at 48th & Chicago. Patrons encountered a waiting list for a table nearly every night of the week for deep-fried brie curds, slow-cooked Cuban sandwiches and beer flights partially brewed from three casks onsite. The restaurant generated creative new brews like The Parkway Java Porter, which incorporates cold press coffee roasted across the street at Sovereign Grounds.


The new restaurant would not feature an onsite brewery, however.


“Our goal is to have bowling, a full-service restaurant and full-service bar,” Rifakes said.


The owners haven’t yet closed on the sale, and menu details aren’t determined.


Rifakes is currently estimating costs to decide the extent of renovations to the Skylane buildings. He said he has been searching for a new Town Hall location.


“We love the neighborhood over there,” he said. “And I love to bowl as well.”

You did get the news on Little T right?

Oh yeah, you all will hate me for this, but Bakers Sqaures are all over, and they actually have decent pie. Not up to Stockholm standards but they do in a pinch, or just buy the ingredients and give them to Finn. BTW, the one on 66th has free pie on Wednesdays

Screw that. Went tonight to drown my sorrows (broken Jeep) with Mexican food and Mexican beer. The service is outstanding and the food is as good as I remembered.

Discussed a possible M&G with the hostess (who I believe to be the owner) and we could probably squeeze 17 into one area. Personally, I think it's better off as an impromptu M&G kind of place.

I went Thursday at 5:30 and got a booth right away. It still looked like the regular mix of locals, art students and punks. The prices went up and they switched to waffle fries but other than that and new bathrooms and a bar, everything is pretty much the same.

I am all for going again if anyone wants to go.

I think the key is to get there before 6. After that, it's anyone's guess until at least 9, when things slow down a bit.

For me, the biggest change was the "stage" now missing from the main dining area. To actually be able to look out onto 26th took some getting used to. The new, glass light fixtures and ceiling fans are a nice touch.
