Well Jud has more info......

I do remember when we went out there I think we stopped at the Ranger Station near (not in) Rapid city and got a map of the area showing a lot of roads not on the map. He also gave us a lot of information where there was active logging that we might wish to avoid.

Beware of the prairie dogs...

If you call up the Black Hills National Forest Service office, they will send you free motor vehicle use maps. They're quite detailed and are the ticket for getting around all the trails legally. You'll need to buy a trail pass to be on the trails.

The Midwest Overland Society took a trip out there last summer. I can ask the group leader about maps and such.

I have all the maps down loaded, and also picked up some dandy waterproof maps at the outdoor store in the Fitgers comlex the last time I passed through Dah-lut. Looking more for the first hand experience and commentary on perferred trails, campsites, midget clown porn, etc.

There is a group from D23 that goes to the Black Hills every Memorial Day weekend. I'll ask if any of that group is online and can offer up some tips.

Set up a course in the backyard and they can stand in the treehouse for great visibility of the whole track.

Dad had to go first, you know for safety's sake and all that. They've been having blast with it. I'm glad I got the waterproof one though. The entire underbody was crammed full of snow after the last run.
