Yes - this is what worked for me too ! I could sorta read it, but the cell camera with a flash made it crystal clear.

So can anyone guess *why* we have to go through this nonsense now ? ....too many stolen Harleys ?

Providing the engine number has been required for a long time - at least since 1998 when I bought my ZX1100, I remember going through it then.

I presume it is some sort of anti theft measure.

Thanks for the complements on the bike.

Firstpath: NE of wbl is where I have been playing. I get out a little further and closer to Stillwater each time. My buddy with a TW lives in Woodbury and finds some fun around there and Afton. I would like to get up North of Hinkley for some single track.

SSG: that's is exactly my intentions with this bike. Short trips and as much gravel/dirt I can find.

If I continue down the path of playing on two wheels instead of four I will get a bigger bike for cruising and longer trips to park next to the crf.

I live in White Bear Lake. Never been real big into motorcycles but this made a good fit for a new toy. At the time I bought It i was stuck living in a townhouse with very little garage space. Now that I am in a house with more room for another muscle car I don't want to sell the bike.

So far I have been cruising the back roads east of wbl. Taking as many gravel roads as I can find. Not real interested in jumping out onto the big roads like 35, 36 or 494/694. This bike is more of a 60mph or less ride.

Anyways what kind of riding do you all do?

Rob
Hi Rob - I live in a little town about 6 miles north of you. ;) If you head east and north you can find plenty of dirt, but nothing too exciting for "off road" that I know of yet, but there is plenty of nice scenery and gravel all along the river valley. You're also very close to carlos avery which is a nice sandy diversion. You can find your way on backroads through lino, or east of 61.
The wife and I are riding GS's mainly now, and do ride the area fairly often. After work, off to dinner, or every-other weekend etc. We also keep our XT's 250 & 600, but I just can't seem to part with that old dinosaur in my avatar. Too much fun and a great vintage wheelie machine.
If you see an orange 800GS cruising through WBL that'd probably be me.

When I went to get the engine number off my CB900 I found no numbers in the rectangle on the engine. I had to have a written document from Tousley for the DMV to accept that fact. I was pretty green when I bought it and believe it was a salvage bike without the proper notification on the title.

Thanks for the info. I will keep exploring north and east towards the river valley. I will keep an eye out for an orange GS.

Carlos Avery sounds like a nice spot. Is it ok to explore it when it's not hunting season?

Absolutely ok, but I don't know about any off the road rules. The roads have always sufficed and there aren't really trails there per se. Just a few cars out sight seeing once in awhile.

I sometimes forget everyone here isn't on the book of face.

The camera idea was good the negative mode didn't add any definition but hopefully I can get the title transferred today.

That is a beauty. Be interesting if you can tune the handling and such so that it 'feels' like the bike that you think it should be.

She's a pretty photogenic girl. Has Daggy learned how to ride yet?

Engine numbed turned out to not be a huge deal. I made my best guess and they wrote it down
