I'm going to cheat a little bit here...

I'm going to cheat a little bit here, mostly because I don't have enough pics of this weekend's adventure to warrant a thread...

I took the KLR from the Terre Haute area down to Jackson Falls in Southern Illinois and returned via some gravel roads along the Ohio River in Kentucky.. Good times..

Following the GPS does yield some gems every now and again. This is somewhere South of Martinsville, Illinois, and North of Lawrenceville, and yes, it's a road... :)

As the pics upload (it's slow this evening) I'll post 'em up..

John

Other than just needing a change of scenery and a bike trip, I wanted to scope the place out for some rock climbing. My buddies go here a couple of times a year, but I've always had other commitments and could never join them. About a hundred yards or so from my tent is the crag..

The stream I'm camped near empties into the gorge with a considerable and significantly unsafe drop...

Here's a better view from the top, showing the picnic-y area below in the gorge...

Spring has sprung, or is springing, at any rate (so many puns, so little time...), so Pinktoad and I went for a scoot on the DR350's.

There's a lovely little gravel/sand road that really has just a little bit of everything, just across the river from Clinton, heading North before you get to Jack's bar at the 41/163 intersection on the North side of Lyford (how's that for too much detail?). It's got at least a few feet of everything you'd ride on the Trans-Labrador Highway, and is good practice. We gassed-up at the Clinton Citgo, then went there.

I am perhaps the luckiest man in the world.

And she's kickin' it old skool! Yo!

Near Mecca..

I love being able to lift the front end with a simple roll-on..

We headed down to Coxville, then over to Shoe's Barn for some beef brisket and iced tea for lunch.. Shoe recommended we take the Tickridge Road loop for a couple of covered bridges..

A quick break in the sun. We had to chase one of my gloves downstream. Don't have any idea how that could have happened.

Tractors and such weigh too much for the bridges, and are too wide, so there are adjacent cement fords in a few strategic locations..

Eventually we beat feet to just outside of Greencastle, where the former Conrail (Pennsy) cross what I think is either Big Walnut Creek or Eel River..

All in all, a fine day on the bikes in Indiana..

A little over a hundred miles, round trip, mostly gravel..

Nice little ride!

I do have to agree. You appear to be very lucky.

Thanks for sharing John. Always love your images!

Jerry & I are heading out of Jeffersonville in the AM to see if we can get in trouble.

Finally got the color pics up to smugmug...

The trees are well-into the budding phase, and the fields are full of color..

We've had quite a lot of rain this Spring, so there's also very little dust. The sandy sections are almost like cement in places..

The Olympia hi-viz suit almost blends-in with the new leaves sprouting from the trees...

If you do any of these rides, be aware that the "resturant" in Story HAS THE WORST FOOD IN INDIANA!!!

I ride that road quite often you never know how the rain or flooding will affect it.

In the second pic there is a trail that goes up the hill on the left. About 3/4 of the way up on the left is great place for one of your photo shoots.

Every time I've been past there, there's either been a dozen Harleys or a a bus load of old folks out front. I figure it's one place that I might stop for a burger at some point, just to btdt. Perhaps after your advice I'll just make it an iced tea instead. ;)

Sure. Holler when you're around. Will you be on bike?

Yeah, sometimes it's not there!

I saw a couple of nice little trails up the hillsides, but figured I'd surely get shot if I so much as left the roadway on foot. It IS mushroom season, after all.

Ever eat at Shoe's?
