Hey all,

My finacee and I will be married this August; in January she reports to her new job on Ohau. She doesn't currently ride, but we hope to rectify that by the time we get there. I'm a long-time rider, and am bringing my airhead with me.

Where can I find info about riding on Ohau?

Got my freedom, riding along the freeway,
I ride a hundred miles an hour, but I don't mess up my DA.

That's a fantastic thread. I'm going to have to get a trail bike.

Aloha Hawaii riders of the rocks that roll

Good fun today, twisting the gas, the 09 KTM 200 took me wherever I pointed it, sucking up the hits and leaping the gap's without a hiccup...got to love that Race Tech suspension set up.

It was hotter then hell out there today riding on the just harden fresh silver looking lava that was flaking off it's outer skin as it was still expanding and cracking as I road on it, the heat was super intense but I stayed on the gas working my way over the flow to get some photos.

The up rising heat was more than I could stand in some spots that just solidified as I was poking around looking for a live red moving lobe on a smooth surface that I could ride through, but there were to many deep spots everywhere.

I didn't want to drop in a live lava pool and get stuck, there was no one in that area where I was riding if things went wrong, also I was out there by myself relying on the KTM to do it's job hauling my 69 yr old senior citizen butt over the demanding terrain.

The flow is working it's way toward Kalapana, being now the low area and path of least resistance because of the build up of the last 20 years of continual flows to the south.

The tourist were blown away seeing a dual sport bike out there wheeling over the dip's and gap's, lots of video/pic's were taken, so if you see an orange KTM blipping over the lava flow on U-Tube you'll know who it is.

I knew you were crazy!!!!!!!
Next time I'm there, we gotta do this! I'm sure Robert will go too!
Last time we spent over two hours walking down 130? in the dark
trying to get some good night time pix.
Never got even close.
Maybe the flow will have reached the ocean by the time we make it back.

An ADV decal> (Mahalo Sfront) on the live Kalapana lava flow.

Potato chip procrastination

He thought real hard
Fun rides or tasty lard?

He shows he needs the rides
Belly's hanging over the sides

Grips rotting off rusty bent bars
Spider web's covering plastics scars

~~~ Or ~~~
Dual-Sport rejuvenation
Hey that's a no brainier
Level 5 ride that's insaner
Got gear with armor inside
Shoootz, got ab's for the ride
Wired new Oury grips on to new bars
ADV decals covers all the plastic scars
Yo Bruddah Steve
This is part of my new August 8th BBQ dual sport ride trail that Robert and I road/broke inn last Sunday.
It starts in 30 foot tall cinder mounds with a 40 yr old Ironwood forest growing on'em.
The trail serpentines around and up and down the mounds on soft foot deep Ironwood needles, having a "chicken skin" 80 degree 25 ft vertical (gulp!) drop off out of the trees into a hard a'a' Pahoehoe lava field that takes a Trials type riding skill to get through it.
Robert tried to Bulldog his 250 Yamaha down the drop off...this didn't work...the first step he took the yami and the Grunt went horizontal down the vertical to the bottom in a wink.
Kind of like dropping in on a steep "Eddy would go" North Shore Waimea wave and falling off your board at the drop off lip...it was ugly...but Robert had all the right riding gear on to take the hit's, but the Yamaha left some blue plastic embedded into the chunks of a'a' marking his passage...cool shit man...LOL time.
When you come over I'll take you on this Trail 69 chicken skin section then we can go down to the live lava flow and do some no fear suspension surfing.
