A few pix from the MK200.
Saturday in the Kulani forrest.
Sunday on R1 around Mauna Kea.

Staged on Day one.
Justin.....and his Mom ahead of him.
Oh to be 30 years old again.........and back living at home!!!!

And we're off! Smoothest section we'll see all day.

The 'easy' Powerline section..

Thru a few tunnels........the walls are very unforgiving.

Lots of 'Head Hunters' in the jungle..........

It's the little ones that'll getcha...........ask me how I know!!!!!!

This guy had just taken a soil sample and flagged me down and asked, "Do I need stitches?"
Left shoulder....nahh......ride on!

Check point..

Did I say it rained..........almost all day???????

None of the holes were more than fender deep but lots of them contained BIG rocks and various tree parts!!

Goggles were pretty much useless......I had taken mine off just after the start of the second section.

Just checkin in.......

On to day 2 up on Mauna Kea.......Staged and up next!

Headin up....

A little steep in spots.........usually in a tight switchback of course!

Up at 9700', 6th gear and lettin' 'er rip.

I was feelin' much better than I was the day before!!

Section 2 start after refueling.

The downhill run towards the finish.

Robert (Southest US Thumper) leading us to the finish.

The end is in sight.

Not twenty feet after the finish, Robert checks his shifter and the bolt falls out into his hand.......

If any of you FF's get a chance to ride this in the future, I highly recommend it.
As always, my friends on the BI were great. Mahalo!
I'll be back for sure.(But then you already knew that)
More pix here. Video when I get back on eastern DST!

DeLand, FL.......just west of Daytona.
I didn't get home until Tuesday nite.
We figured that if we were gonna go that far we might
as well stay an extra day or three.
Now if I can just win the Lottery...................

My video gear didn't last very long on this run.
I think the excessive 'moisture' might be the culprit.
Here's the first ten minutes or so.

You should have passed that A$$ Clown in front of you and roosted him all the way to the Summit of Mauna Kea!

That "A$$ Clown" took first place in my class! I should have stuck with him!
Although he did have the right bike for the terrain...............
I think next year I'm gonna bring a 105 XC for that stuff! (I'm still gonna ride the 530 on the mountain though!)

The new Hawaii law!

Aloha hard core Dual Sport off road riders.

For those of you that want to come/move to Hawaii and ride off road, this law has just been passed;

"Factory closed course MX race/enduro bikes can no longer be street legalized with Baja or any other DIY kits".

Why the State of Hawaii shot themselves in the Tax Revenue foot is beyond me.

Though MX bikes that have been previously "Dual Sport kit licensed" are grandfathered clause in, and resalable for street/off road use.

Though you can bring in a mainland plated kit legalized MX'er and get Hawaii plates for it...go figure?

For those that already have a Hawaii street legal MX Dual Sport bike, it's resale value has now automatically gone up because of this new law.

Because of it's weight problem and de-tuned factor, a legal licensed factory Dual Sport bike is not a good choice to ride on demanding Big Island off road tight forest and rough rocky lava single track "do or die" trails that we have.

Note> Ride as much as you can now, because this over populated leaking Nuclear powered world is on a precarious thin moving crust with numerous hazards attached to it just moments away from screwing up your rides on a long term bases...live in the here and now...go fast take yehawww chances today, you may not be able to do it tomorrow.

If the Rock Island Riders and you hard core off road rider folks are not glowing from potential Fukushimi/Ft Calhoun/Los Alamos "gone wild" radioactive human movement stopping bombardment, and other extremes of natures off the wall crap, there will be a 2012 May 26-27th MK 200, and because of this new license law, RIR will not require all that foo foo extra weight Dual Sport street legal shit, though a Spark Arrestor is mandatory! for this rejuvenating mind/body endurance event.

FYI> The Big Island Dual Sport Association has monthly Street legal only on/off road rain or shine rides...some are kick ass tuff and some are fun BBQ rides.

They nailed us here in Washington State with a similar BS law some years ago. No off road motorcycle can be made street legal here anymore. I started riding off road at eight, and street riding at 15 1/2 years and never looked back. I'm 57 now. I've owned maybe 25 bikes over the years-all street legal. Many were dual sports. If I could have just one bike, a dual sport would be it.

Can't wait to get back to the Big Island. The Harley-Davidson dealership I work at is working me to death here! The last hurdle before we move to our place in HPP is selling our Puyallup house, which went up for sale Monday.

By the way Gasser, a couple of trips ago to the island I was in the Suzuki dealership and I happened to be talking about you to a young salesman there, and he said, "oh-you mean Gasser!!". I believe he said you ride a big CBR (or did at that time) on the street.

Our Granddaughter is having her first birthday next month on the Big Island. Wish we could be there.

Birdmove,

I read that they turned that one back and now they just need to be inspected. This happened in the last two months.

That sucks about the new Hawaiian regulation (law?). I don't see why they would have done that as I do not recall seeing al that many players dirt bikes on Oahu. You had to go to Hawaii Rides to get the hookup and then take it to the one guy in Honolulu to get inspected before they would give you a title/plate. I just can't imagine that there were enough that this would have even gotten on the legislature's radar.

On the other hand, there are so many "Sky-Jacked" and lifted trucks with tires way out passed the fender wells...I though those would have been picked on first. Or the lowered cars/trucks where the axles are dropped but the wheel are now way off camber, some by more than 15 degrees. Maybe it's just selective enforcement.
