Were you guys freshwater fishing for crappie? I have to get back into the swing of things, but if I remember the old days correctly, a frontal system tends to turn freshwater fish off but can stir up saltwater fish after it passes.. Or something like that.

Wherever you were, the approaching system may be affecting the fish.

Spring Lake, about ten miles east of Brooksville

Hopefully they'll eat tomorrow

Thanks John

I have to work on it

Mostly just the excersize in the morning

That and I try to stay away from liquid calories during the week

Really hard when Amber's around though

Up in middle GA, we used to kill crappie the easy way when I was a teenager - my stepfather had his 17' Crestliner rigged for it. After nightfall, head up to Lake Sinclair north of Milledgevile, a 50,000 acre GA Power reservoir. Head out to one of the highway bridges and anchor mid span. Coleman lanterns on outriggers both sides. First the minnows attract to the light and start schooling in a circle as far down as you could see. Then the crappie school under them out of sight. Drop the baits down through the minnows and haul the crappie back up. It typically took only a few hours to fill 2-3 coolers and be back home with enough time to clean a whole bunch of fish and still get to bed before dawn.

My turkey neck is somewhat camouflaged in that pic

If I had it to do all over again I'd never have generated all that extra skin

nor the multitude that no amount of exercise will relinquish from my midsection

Too quiet - time for food drivel....

Knowing that today we were going to stuff out on Papa Johns Pizzas, yesterday we cooked stuff like it was already Superbowl Sunday. Beth makes a killer good pea salad. I was looking at options for that, or potato salad (I make the killer good tater salad), or maybe a pasta salad.

So we split the difference and made a pea and penne pasta salad with a handful of boiled shrimp chopped up in it.

Oh yeah baby, the little bit of shrimp set it off just right without making it taste like a seafood salad.

And of course since ribs were on sale....

Scrub Style - grilled on the indirect heat side of the 1950s era charcoal grill for a little over 1 1/2 hours. Then this half slab kept dry and into the foil with the other half sauced and into some foil. Another 2+ hours on the indirect heat. I did take the extra step of brining the slab in a salt/sugar/brown sugar brine for about 5-6 hours first. Fall off the bone tender and juicy.

Patt brought me over a 12 pound turkey that she'd thawed

But she doesn't eat turkey, WTF!

Anyway, I tried something different

Cooked it on a bed of baby gold potatoes, carrots and some garlic in

My Largest Dutch Oven

Covered for 105 minutes at 325 degrees

Uncovered for 45 minutes at 350 degrees

Took it out when the thigh reached 160 degrees and

let it rest covered in the dutch oven

Man, is it freakin' way good and moist

The girls loved it

About three weeks ago I got a raincheck from Publix for bottom round at $2.69/lb

Then this week there was a $5.00 coupon that came with the Winn Dixie flyer and Publix accepts them too

Just picked up 12 pounds of the best looking cubed steak I've seen lately

they didn't have but one bottom round so they substituted two nice rump roasts and...

it's some good looking steak for less than half of what the normal price is
